Early announcements raised hopes of a cheap source of electricity or fuel, but as yet, no reproducible results have gained scientific consensus as to the existence of the phenomenon. The idea was brought into public consciousness by an announcement made in 1989 by the chemists Stanley Pons and Martin Fleischmann at the University of Utah that they had generated excess heat that they believed at the time could only be explained by the occurrence of a nuclear reaction. Their apparatus was relatively simple: a pair of

Billions of pounds, (and dollars, roubles and yen), more than four decades of research and the careers of thousands of physicists have been expended on the search for a nuclear reactor that will generate limitless power from the fusion of hydrogen atoms. There are grey-haired professors with lined faces still poring intently over the equations they first looked at eagerly with bright young eyes in the 1940s and 1950s. They will go into retirement with their dreams of cheap, safe power from fusion still years in the future. For the obstacles in their paths are as formidable now as ever.

It was the most notorious scientific experiment in recent memory - in 1989, the two men who claimed to have discovered the energy of the future were condemned as imposters and exiled by their peers. Can it possibly make sense to reopen the cold fusion investigation? A surprising number of researchers already have.
By Charles Platt
PLUS Cold Fusionaries Almost four stories high, framed in steel beams and tangled in pipes, conduits, cables, and coils, the Joint European Torus (JET) claims to be the largest fusion power experiment in the world. Located near Oxford, England, JET is a monument to big science, its donut-shaped containment vessel dwarfing maintenance workers who enter it in protective suits. Here in this gleaming nuclear cauldron, deuterium gas is energized with 7 million amperes and heated to 300 million degrees Celsius - more than 10 times hotter than the center of the sun. Under these extreme conditions atomic nuclei collide and fuse, liberating energy that could provide virtually limitless power. Maybe.

Whatever happened to cold fusion?
First announced ten years ago, cold fusion has been largely dismissed by the scientific community. But, as David Voss discovers, some researchers remain adamant that this supposed new energy source is real, and are pressing ahead with their own experiments. Most physicists can probably remember where they were when they first heard of Stanley Pons and Martin Fleischmann. On 23 March 1989 the two electrochemists grabbed the world's attention by announcing at a press conference in Salt Lake City, Utah, that they had observed controlled nuclear fusion in a glass jar. The excess heat measured in the experiment offered the promise of a new power source for the planet, as well as huge financial rewards.

Cold Fusion Gelato - Our Story
Founded in 2001, Cold Fusion Gelato has always been family-owned and operated. In a past life, our Grand Pooh-Bah and fearless leader was a Wall Street banker who got tired of being, well, a Wall Street banker. He realized that he'd rather make gelato and sorbet that made people smile! Each of our gelato and sorbet flavors are made by a person, not by a factory, and we always follow the truest Italian traditions. Our scrumptious frozen desserts are made using the freshest possible ingredients: fruits plucked from the tree at their moment of peak ripeness, as well as the world's finest nuts, finest chocolates, and rarest herbs and spices. Artisan means that our product is hand-made, using all-natural ingredients sourced locally from people we know and trust. The result of all of this love and dedication is a silky, cool, uplifting fusion of flavor.

Cold Fusion - "Simmetria" War Office Propaganda digipack CD 2007
Symmetry perceived as some kind of balance and harmony. Symmetry between surrounding world and its "mirror reflection", which sticks in our minds. Symmetry of left and right side, day and night, birth and death. Symmetry of buildings, objects, bodies. biquitous symmetry. Brand new album of Cold Fusion reflets ist theme - dynamic, marching atmosphere from one side, melancholy and reverie from another. Illusory lack of symmetry or rather its confirmation? 11 tracks, 44.30 minutes comes in nice digipack designed by Michal Karcz.

A Cold Fusion Primer
Cold fusion, 11 Years Later: What's New? (This is an update to " Cold fusion, 1994: What's it all about?" which appears below this article.
BY STEVEN B. KRIVIT
Eleven years have passed since Eugene Mallove and Jed Rothwell wrote "A Cold Fusion Primer." It's now 2005. What's new? What's not? This article provides a brief summary to answer these questions. Sadly, one of the greatest changes is the loss of Eugene Mallove, brutally murdered in early 2004. At the time of this writing, the mystery is unsolved and no suspects are named. Looking back on the perspective from 1994, it seems as though cold fusion research lost significant momentum in the latter half of the last decade, though a revival now seems possible. In 1994, the research initiatives funded by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) in the U.S. and the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) in Japan inspired strong optimism. By the mid-1990's however, these programs folded, for what appeared to be a lack of significant progress. The Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry and the journal Fusion Technology, which had previously been willing to accept cold fusion papers both had a change in policy and stopped accepting cold fusion papers. Few journals have taken their place. The Japanese Journal of Applied Physics has been a notable exception.

Foreword by Wil Harris
Max Erlandsson, aka SleepStreamer, is another talented modder to hail from Sweden - is it something in the water over there? Max is a good friend of renowned modder Wolverine , who got him started in the dark art of case hackery. Amazingly, this is Max's first mod which, given the result, is amazing. I hope you enjoy checking out the gestation of this gorgeous creation. Here's a preview of the eye candy to come!
Cold Fusion by SleepStreamer
Hi! As a beginner modder, this is the work log for my first 'real' case mod project. The original idea was to create a mod that was inspired by a futuristic kind of 'nuclear reactor', and this gave rise to the name: Cold Fusion . As you might already have suspected, I'm a big fan of science fiction.
