I now end my advocacy efforts for special needs children for the 2005-06 school year. Each year ends with more frustration than the last. Let me explain. So let me vent here. I will give some examples. There are methods to improve children's cognitive functioning (i.e. raise their IQ). Take for example the work of Reuven Feuerstein who devoted his life to this subject. In Europe, he is considered as important a figure in psychology as Sigmund Freud. In America, he is hardly known. For children who are struggling with limited cognitive skills, his program of Instrumental Enrichment offers hope of success. Yet we are challenged to find any of our schools who know of this and who have staff trained in these methods.

t u r e P a g e s Research Shows Parent Involvement in Education Important To Student Success It is no wonder that parent involvement with the schools has become a major educational issue. This is an era of concern about the quality of education in this country. States are taking a greater role in monitoring and maintaining academic standards. Communities are ever more watchful of the expense of public education. Local schools are concerned about continuing to provide high-quality teaching and other services with dwindling resources. And parents want assurance that their children will receive adequate preparation to lead rewarding adult lives. A recent review of the research literature by Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory found that, "clearly, parent involvement is effective in fostering achievement and affective gains at all levels, and schools are encouraged to engage and maintain this involvement throughout the elementary, middle school and secondary years".

Description
The Journal of Experimental Child Psychology is a leading source of empirical research on all aspects of children's development from infancy through adolescence, including cognitive, social, and physical development. In addition to publishing full-length and brief empirical reports, the journal occasionally includes methodological notes. There is also a "Reflections" format, in which a lead empirical article is followed by a set of reflections on the article. Scholars discuss one or more of the empirical, theoretical, methodological, or analytical issues raised by the initial paper. In addition, the journal periodically publishes Special Topic issues.
