ROCK-dependent acto-myosin contraction is important for cancer cell motilty. Erik Sahai and colleagues have now found that PDK1 regulates ROCK1 localization and thereby cell motility by competing with RhoE binding.
MDM2 targets FOXO3a for degradation Article by Yang et al
Hung and colleagues find that ERK activity induces phosphorylation and MDM2-mediated degradation of the tumour suppressing transcription factor FOXO3a. This provides new insights into potential targets for human cancer therapy.
FOCUS ISSUE MIAMI 2008 WINTER SYMPOSIUM
Developmental biology has recently embraced molecular and cell biological approaches to complement the traditional repertoire of genetic and embryology techniques. As a result, molecular mechanisms of animal development and links with human disease pathologies are emerging. With six specially-commissioned articles, the Focus on Development and Disease highlights how developmental pathways gone awry can cause disease.
