"to talk about life"), also referred to as the biological sciences , is the scientific study of life . Biology examines the structure, function, growth, origin, evolution, and distribution of living things. It classifies and describes organisms, their functions, how species come into existence, and the interactions they have with each other and with the natural environment . Four unifying principles form the foundation of modern biology: cell theory evolution genetics and homeostasis Biology as a separate science was developed in the nineteenth century, as scientists discovered that organisms shared fundamental characteristics. Biology is now a standard subject of instruction at schools and universities around the world, and over a million papers are published annually in a wide array of biology and medicine journals Most biological sciences are specialized disciplines. Traditionally, they are grouped by the type of organism being studied:

Amphibian Skin Agent Fights Bacteria
Researchers have discovered that amphibian skin contains an important antimicrobial agent that can be used to fight multi-drug resistant bacterial strains.
People typically develop infections from these drug resistant microorganisms in hospitals.
It is hoped that amphibian antimicrobial peptides may one day be used to develop new substances for treating various infectious diseases.

What is the Aorta
The aorta is the largest artery in the body. Arteries are vessels that carry blood away from the heart.
The aorta carries and distributes oxygen rich blood to all arteries. With the exception of the main pulmonary artery , most major arteries branch off from the aorta.

So you're asking, what is BIOLOGY ? Well... Here's our best definition. Biology is the study of LIFE and the changes that take place with and around all living things. And don't just think we mean Earth. The study of biology covers every planet and object in the Universe.
In the same way everything on Earth is made up of atoms, everything that is alive on Earth is made up of cells . An entire living thing can be one cell or it can be billions. Most cells on Earth have similar pieces and parts. Let's get started and look inside cell structure . Go take a look!

Biology News Researchers Discover Link Connecting Schizophrenia, Autism, and Maternal Flu
A team of Caltech researchers found an unexpected link connecting schizophrenia and autism to the importance of covering your mouth whenever you sneeze. Recent studies suggest that if a woman suffers even one respiratory infection during her second trimester, her offspring's risk of schizophrenia rises by three to seven times. Schizophrenia and autism have a strong (though elusive) genetic component. Susceptibility to these disorders is increased by something that occurs to mother or fetus during a bout with the flu. The researchers isolated a protein that plays a pivotal role in that dire chain of events. A paper containing their results, "Maternal immune activation alters fetal brain development through interleukin-6," is published in the October 3 issue of the Journal of Neuroscience.
