http://www.its.caltech.edu/~biochem/
Biochemistry has been established as an interdisciplinary program at the interface of biology and chemistry that seeks to understand the chemistry of life. Thus, biochemists study the atomic structure and folding of biopolymers; their interactions with each other and with small molecules; and the roles of particular biopolymers and biopolymer assemblies in cellular physiology.
The basic building block of life is the cell; the intellectual focus of modern biochemistry is to understand how individualparts interact to give cells their wide spectrum of functions. In particular, biochemistry addresses the principles through which the individual components of cells combine in an orderly self-association to produce cell form, function, and dynamic behavior.

... Overview Overview Biochemistry investigates the chemistry of biological molecules, their systems and chemical reactions within cells using current methods of biochemical analysis and molecular biology. The interface of biology and chemistry provides an integrative focus for understanding the molecular processes of life. Biochemistry students have a strong foundation for entering medical and graduate schools or industrial positions. The biochemistry major provides flexibility in course selection so students can tailor the program to meet their career goals. Beloit College is one of the top 50 undergraduate colleges in the country at producing our nation's scientists according to the Oberlin 50 report. In a survey of Beloit chemistry alumni, we discovered more than 90 percent had gone on for advanced degrees, including Ph.D.s, M.D.s, M.B.A.s, and J.D.s. More than 90 percent of the alumni are involved in careers related to their scientific training as undergraduates. Beloit College biochemistry majors enjoy their education and succeed because of it.

Welcome to the
Biochemistry Ph.D. Program
at
The Graduate Center of the
City University of New York.
The interdisciplinary science of biochemistry draws from fundamental chemical theory and research techniques as the basis for explorations into problems of biology. Students participate in research early in their graduate work, preferably in the first year of study, and engage actively in a broadly based seminar and colloquium program. Areas of faculty research include:
  • Biochemical pharmacology Bioenergetics Bioinformatics Bioinorganic chemistry Bioorganic chemistry Biotechnology/Biomaterials Enzymology and protein biochemistry Immunochemistry Lipid chemistry Membrane structure, function, and transport Metabolism and regulation Molecular biology Neurochemistry Organelle biochemistry Physical biochemistry/biophysical chemistry Structural biology.
