What is the best evidence to support the existence of Bigfoot?
Whether or not "bigfoot" is real, the "bigfoot phenomenon" is real. This idea was first enunciated by Dr. Robert Pyle, in his book "Where Bigfoot Walks". The "bigfoot phenomenon" is the certain fact that we continue to receive "bigfoot" sighting reports, and we continue to find "bigfoot" footprints in the forest. Something is making the footprints, and something is being seen in the Pacific Northwest by human observers. Below is a pretty thorough list of explanations for "bigfoot":
  • A large, hairy humanoid with a common ancestor to man, of an animal species yet unknown to science

    Synopsis
The overall goal of BigFoot is to provide validation of MODLand (MODIS Land Science Team) science products, including land cover, leaf area index (LAI), fraction absorbed photosynthetic active radiation (f APAR ) , and net primary production (NPP). To do so, we use ground measurements, remote sensing data, and ecosystem process models at sites representing different biomes. BigFoot sites are 5 x 5 km in size and surround the relatively small footprint ( 1 km ) of CO flux towers. At each site we make multi-year in situ measurements of ecosystem structure and functional characteristics that are related to the terrestrial carbon cycle. Our sampling design allows us to explicitly examine scales of fine-grained spatial pattern in these properties, and provides for a field-based ecological characterization of the flux tower footprint. Multi-year measurements ensure that inter-annual validity of MODLand products can be assessed.

    What is Bigfoot?
Bigfoot, or Sasquatch as he is sometimes called, is a supernatural legend that shares a sub category with such creatures as the Loch Ness monster, the werewolf, and even the elf. Usually described as being between 7-10 feet tall and weighing somewhere between 500-1000 pounds, belief in Bigfoot is almost as widespread as belief in ghosts and flying saucers. According to Brunvand, "Supernatural legends generally take the form of supposedly factual accounts of occurrances and experiences which seem to validate folk beliefs and superstitions" (1986; 161). It is these "supposedly factual accounts" that keep the Bigfoot legend very alive, and Mount Shasta has had it fair share of gigantic footprints and interaction with hairy giants.

    Bigfoot in Texas?
By Craig Woolheater Maps comparing river basins, precipitation amounts, and bigfoot sightings in Texas. More information. Some people think that the Bigfoot phenomenon is strictly a Pacific Northwest occurrence. They would be sadly mistaken. There have been reported sightings in every state in the Union with the exception of Hawaii. In East Texas, which is where the majority of the reported sightings of Bigfoot occur in the state, there is nearly 12 million acres of forestland. That is equivalent to 12 million football fields. There are four national forests and five state forests in Texas, all located in East Texas, the primary and most important forest area in Texas. The East Texas Pine Belt, or "Piney Woods" as it is commonly called, extends over forty-three counties and accounts for almost all the state's commercial timber. Marion County is smack dab in the Piney Woods. There has been a long history of sightings in the state of Texas. One of the first in the history books is the strange case of the "The Wild Woman Of The Navidad". This is a story that was recounted in the "Legends of Texas" published by the Texas Folklore Society in 1924. The creature was described as covered in short brown hair and was very fast. She eluded capture because the horses were so afraid of the strange creature that they could not be urged within reach of the lasso. These events occurred in 1837 in the Texas settlements of the lower Navidad. Mysterious barefoot tracks were seen frequently in the area. There are Native American legends dating back hundreds of years that describe tribes of giants that were hair-covered and lived in the woods.

THE QUEST FOR SASQUATCH "It's out there somewhere, and we're gonna find it. . . Right partner." There has long been a legend of forest giants among the Native tribes of the Pacific Northwest. These legendary creatures are today known as Bigfoot or Sasquatch. Reports of bi-pedal primates stalking the wilderness stretch back to the times of the Vikings, and even before. There is strong evidence to support the existence of such a creature in the woods of Pennsylvania and Virgina. Covered in forests, these states are reknown for hunting and wildlife and we believe this dense wilderness would be a perfect home for the elusive creature. Bigfoot encounters in the U.S. by state WHAT IS IT?
In a theory touted by noted physical anthropologist and Bigfoot researcher Dr. Grover Krantz, the Sasquatch is a living version of the long extinct ape Gigantopithecus blacki Dr. Krantz believed that the Gigantopithecus was bi-pedal based on the configuration of its lower jaw. One of the biggest arguments skeptics present for the non-existence of Bigfoot is that no fossils of ancient bi-pedal primates have ever been recovered from the Pacific Northwest.
If Bigfoot does inhabit the woods of North America, it most likely would have migrated there between 20,000 and 50,000 years ago, possibly alongside early

    BIGFOOT
©Lee Paul There is possibly no other creature in the annals of science (or non-science) that arouses more curiosity than Bigfoot. The case files contain thousands of reported sightings, yet no actual specimen has ever been found. Hundreds of photographs exist, but the creature has not been identified. Still, the clues accumulate year after year. In the words of one investigator, "It is an extremely complex phenomenon with no starting point and few geographical limits." If Bigfoot exists, and nothing short of the actual creature will suffice for most skeptics, then it most certainly must be a relative of man. Although no one has ever managed to capture a live creature, or claimed the carcass of a dead one, it still does not follow that Bigfoot is a creation of the imagination. The legend of wild half-men is universal, reaching from the satyrs and centaurs of Greek mythology to Tarzan and others of modern fiction. Nearly every mountain range in the world has stories of shambling, manlike creatures with footprints too large to be human. Eyewitness reports and physical evidence is just a little too staggering-a little too overwhelming-to be tossed aside as mere tricks of the mind. Descriptions of the apelike creature do not vary. Bigfoot is anywhere from six to ten feet tall, 300 to 1,000 pounds, and walks upright on two legs. Hair covers almost all of its body and ranges in color from black to silvery-white, with the predominant color being reddish-brown. The creature has a flat face and nose, a receding, sloped forehead with a prominent brow ridge, and a cone-shaped head which sits on broad shoulders with no apparent neck. Its proportions are roughly those of a human, except for its long dangling arms. Species? Unknown.

Daniel Perez, curator of the Center for Bigfoot Studies, looked at clippings on reported sightings of the creature. (Irfan Khan/Los Angeles Times) Email Print Text size By David Kelly Los Angeles Times January 6, 2008 RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Center for Bigfoot Studies, like the creature itself, is not easy to find. It hides amid the forest of homes on a quiet Riverside street. No signs or monster-size tracks point the way, but those in the know can pin it down to an upper floor of one unassuming house. There, jammed inside a few small rooms, sits one of the nation's largest repositories of Bigfoot lore. Rows of books, stuffed filing cabinets, sculptures, and plaster casts of overgrown feet compete for space in a cluttered world dedicated to the legendary hulking primate. Daniel Perez, 44, is curator and director of the center, which doubles as his home. It's not typical Bigfoot habitat, but he couldn't beat the price. And for Perez it's the work, not the location, that matters.

Heavy equipment was moved, loaded drums were tossed about, foot prints were everywhere, and workers were followed about through the dense underbrush by foul-smelling, haunting visages. In 1960, there were sightings by reliable people and over 50 sightings have taken place since that time. Out of respect to the legend of Bigfoot, the community of Willow Creek has erected a large Bigfoot statue in the heart of town. Willow Creek is known as "The Gateway to Bigfoot Country". (As described in the book "Traveling the Trinity Highway" by Ben Bennion and Jerry Rohde) Mike stared then blinked, hoping he was dreaming. Just outside stood a giant animal seven feet tall and covered with hair, it looked like a human crossed with a gorilla. The creature circled the van as if trying to find out what it held. In the moonlight, Gordon could make out a big torso, broad shoulders, and a big face. By this time, he felt like a big bowl of Jell-O during an earthquake. When the figure jostled the van a few more times, Mike knew he had to do something. He fumbled with the ignition key and, after a few tries, managed to start the engine and begin blowing the horn. Looking as startled as Gordon felt, the animal fled into the tangled forest below the campground. Grinding gears, Mike headed for the nearby Salyer Ranger Station with his unbelievable story.

    BIGFOOT - SASQUATCH
In the United States the creature is known as Bigfoot or Sasquatch and is most often seen in the wooded areas of the northwest. Eye-witnesses describe the creature as being 6 feet to 8 feet tall, walking upright on two legs (bipedal), weighing 500-800 pounds and being covered in hair.
    THE FLORIDA SKUNK APE
The Florida Skunk Ape is supposedly a seven-foot-tall gorilla-like creature said to resemble the legendary Abominable Snowman. Witnesses in the Florida Everglades have claimed to have spotted the red-haired Big Foot, known locally as a Skunk Ape because of its appalling smell. The National Parks Service dismisses the stories as a hoax, but American tribes that live in the swamps insist it is real.
    THE FAULK MONSTER
The Faulk Monster, made famous in the United States, in the 1970's, by the Charles B. Pierce film "Legend of Boggy Creek" is the "Arkansas Bigfoot". Allegedly sighted in the environs of the small town of Faulk, Arkansas, it supposedly bears a close resemblance to the Sasquatch and "Bigfoot" of farther North. Regardless of the standing of the Pierce film as a "cult classic", this creature is an absolute and undeniable hoax.
    YOSER
In Australia the creature is known as Yoser. It has been reported in remote areas of the outback ever since the first colonists landed in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The sightings of Yoser more or less correspond with those of other "Bigfoot" like creatures, in that it is always reported to be a large primate, between eight and nine feet in height, and approximately 300 pounds in weight. Yoser, apparently, is a close relative of Sasquach and Bigfoot, his fur being an overall brown to black in color. The sightings of Yoser have become more and more confined to Australia's interior as the continent has become more populous the original sightings were relatively close to Sydney.
