Welcome to the Department of Anthropology at UNC Chapel Hill
Anthropology is the integrative study of human beings at all times and in all places. Within this broad field of study, three thematic and overlapping concentrations form the focus of our department.
These innovative concentrations consider humans as their lives are framed simultaneously by cultural meanings, the social systems in which they participate, and the biology and ecology of the human species in its evolutionary context and contemporary variation.
We also house programs in medical anthropology and archaeology, the latter in close association with the Research Laboratories of Archaeology , along with less formal working groups. Personal tools

The UC Santa Cruz Department of Anthropology encompasses three subdisciplines: anthropological archaeology, cultural anthropology, and physical anthropology. While each field has its own area of study and research practices, together they offer a broad range of perspectives on the politics and experience of being human. To develop a multifaceted view of humans and their diversity, undergraduates are required to pursue courses in all subfields as part of their major. Graduates specialize in one of the subdisciplines, although conversations across all three may be found in proseminars, colloquia, and seminars.
