For evolution to occur it is not enough to simply succeed - others must fail.
Enter your search terms Web www.bumblebee.org Submit search form The Kingdom Animalia is divided into Phyla (see below), and is believed to have evolved from single-celled protist ancestors about 1000 million years ago. There are generally thought to be about 35 extant Phyla, but this number varies according to different workers. Taking into account fossil evidence and the length of time assumed necessary for evolution; it is probable that most of the Phyla were in existence by the Cambrian . Two of these Phyla, the Porifera and the Placozoa (see below right), are sufficiently different from the others to be grouped apart, dividing the Kingdom into two Sub-kingdoms; the Sub-kingdom Parazoa containing the Porifera and the Placozoa, and the Sub-kingdom Eumetazoa containing all the other Phyla. CHARACTERISTICS Multicellular, so different cells can specialise.

The Monogenea, Trematoda, and Cestoda are the three major classes of parasitic flatworms, though the Turbellaria used to be considered a part of this class* Monogeneans are largely ectoparasites on vertebrates like fishes; trematodes are the flukes, most of which live inside the organs of a variety of vertebrates as adults; and cestodes are the tapeworms, living in the intestines of a variety of vertebrates as adults (this is why your pets get annual shots—so that they don’t experience cestodes or trematodes—otherwise, pets could die as a result of an infestation of these worms.) All Platyhelminthes are hermaphroditic in nature, meaning they can fertilize themselves.

    Body Cavities
About 7 pages (2,091 words) Body cavity Summary
Body Cavities The evolution of body cavities within the kingdom Animalia has a very interesting history. In fact, the increasing complexity of animal form and function during the evolution of the group can be directly linked to the evolution of ever-more-sophisticated body cavities. The most primitive animal phyla possess only a single body cavity, which typically has either digestive or circulatory functions, or both. There is no secondary body cavity, or coelom, and consequently these phyla are referred to as the acoelomates
Most animal phyla, however, have evolved a second body cavity of one form or another. The pseudocoelomates, which include a number of worm-like phyla, are characterized by a secondary body cavity known as the pseudocoelom . The pseudocoelom has some but not all of the characteristics of true coeloms. Finally, several animal phyla, including those that possess the most complex body plans in the kingdom, are characterized by a body cavity known as a true

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation search Picture of Human body cavities - dorsal body cavity to the left and ventral body cavity to the right. By the broadest definition, a body cavity is any fluid filled space in a multicellular organism . However, the term usually refers to the space, located between an animal ’s outer covering ( epidermis ) and the outer lining of the gut cavity, where internal organs develop. "The body cavity" of human body cavities normally refers to the ventral body cavity , because it is by far the largest one in area. The type of body cavity places an organism into one of these three groups:
    • Coelomates (also known as eucoelomates"true coelom") have a fluid filled body cavity called a coelom pronounced /ˈsiːləm/ ) with a complete lining called peritoneum derived from mesoderm (one of the three primary tissue layers ). The complete mesoderm lining allows organs to be attached to each other so that they can be suspended in a particular order while still being able to move freely within the cavity. Most bilateral animals, including all the vertebrates , are coelomates.
