Numerical linear algebra technique to arrive at faster pagerank technology than Google's
Google page rank technology changed the way the world searched the internet. Well, change is constant, we are close to seeing a better technology (or if we call it a emerging technique for now) coming up.
Researchers at Stanford University have developed techniques fr computing Google-style web rankings up to five times faster; As a result of this speed-up it may make 'Topic-sensitive' page rankings feasible.
According to NSF ( National Science Foundation) article: To speed up PageRank, the Stanford team developed a trio of techniques in numerical linear algebra. First, in the WWW2003 paper, they describe so-called "extrapolation" methods, which make some assumptions about the Web's link structure that aren't true, but permit a quick and easy computation of PageRank. Because the assumptions aren't true, the PageRank isn't exactly correct, but it's close and can be refined using the original PageRank algorithm. The Stanford researchers have shown that their extrapolation techniques can speed up PageRank by 50 percent in realistic conditions and by up to 300 percent under less realistic conditions.
The research team at Stanford includes graduate students Sepandar Kamvar and Taher Haveliwala, noted numerical analyst Gene Golub and computer science professor Christopher Manning.

In this article I will review what we both know very well, as I recently have done, trying for utility as well as conciseness. For trigonometry to be fun, one should be prepared in geometry and algebra, at least in the properties of triangles, circles and parallels, and in the manipulation of algebraic formulas. This is not really much preparation, but it is essential. The trigonometry text itself introduced the student to logarithms, once the invariable accompaniment to trigonometry, but now much less important that electronic pocket calculators are available. In omitting logarithms in trigonometry, it should be kept in view that logarithms are very important in mathematics, and the proper and efficient use of tables is still a valuable skill. These subjects belong somewhere, even if not in trigonometry. Now, come review with me!
    Trigonometric Functions
Trigonometric functions are also called circular functions because of their simple relation to various lengths defined by a radius of a circle making an angle with a reference direction, as shown in the figure at the right. This is not the only way of defining trigonometric functions; they can be defined as analytic functions of a complex variable z by power series, for example.

    Review of Plane Trig.
I will briefly review some of the relations used in plane trigonometry. If you are not familiar with these relations you should consult an introductory text on plane trigonometry. The symbol `` '' is to be read as ``is defined to be''. Consider the right triangle shown in the figure. The angle ACB is . Then the edge lengths and the angles are related by ( is the Greek letter alpha) sine of the angle cosine of the angle tangent of the angle cotangent of the angle Because the triangle in the figure is a right triangle, the edges AC, BC, and AB obey Pythagoras' theorem. For any angle (Greek letter beta), where represents the second power of the sine function and represents the second power of the cosine function. That is The inverse trigonometric functions are The notation and does NOT mean the same as in ordinary algebra. Whereas . This can lead to serious mistakes if you do not realize that is just notation for the function. Angles are given in either units of radians or units of degrees. In the following relation, is in units of radians and is in units of degrees.

    http://www.rwgrayprojects.com/rbfnotes/trig/strig/strig.html
    Intro to Spherical Trig.
I used spherical trigonometry to calculate all the angles for the 48 and the 120 LCD spherical triangles of the vector equilibrium and the icosahedron generated by the primary great circles. The presentation given here is far from complete and provides no proofs of the relations stated. The only text book on spherical trigonometry which I have been able to locate is Plane And Spherical Trigonometry, by Kells, Kern, and Bland, McGraw-Hill Book Co., 1940. Other sources to consult are mathematics encyclopedia and dictionaries. A spherical triangle is defined when three planes pass through the surface of a sphere and through the sphere's center of volume. A spherical triangle has three surface angles and three central angles. In the figure, 'A', 'B', and 'C' label the surface angles while 'a', 'b', and 'c' label the central angles. The surface angles correspond to the angle at which two planes intersect each other. Note that the arcs are labeled by the central angles. In particular, notice that the arc opposite a surface angle is labeled with the surface angle's LOWER case letter. For example, the arc opposite the surface angle 'A' is labeled by the lower case letter 'a'. This is just notation and need not be followed, but it helps in remembering the relations to follow. As with plane trigonometry, it is usually easiest to work with a right spherical triangle. That is, a spherical triangle which has a

So we've pretty much exhausted basic camera movement. It's time now to step it up a notch to camera rotation. Instead of changing position in space, this will be centered around changing the direction in which you're looking - effectively, camera rotation. For that, however, you'll need to know some trigonometry ( screams mysteriously sound in the distance ). It can get a little confusing if you don't already know it or at least the basics, so put your brain-caps on and prepare yourself because here we go. If you got trigonometry down pretty well already, you can probably skip this next part. Otherwise, I'll cover the basics of trig for those of you who may be in the dark. After all, it's a driving force for just about everything else in 3D that follows.
