Description This book is written by award-winning author, Frank Morgan. It offers a simple and sophisticated point of view, reflecting Morgan's insightful teaching, lecturing, and writing style. This concise text not only provides efficient proofs, but also shows students how to derive them. The excellent exercises are accompanied by select solutions. Ideally suited as an undergraduate textbook, this complete book on real analysis will fit comfortably into one semester. Frank Morgan received the first Haimo Award for distinguished college teaching from the Mathematical Association of America. He has also garnered top teaching awards from Rice University (Houston, TX) and MIT (Cambridge, MA).

Elements of Linear and Real Analysis
Authors: Stephen Semmes
Comments: LaTex-2e, 160 pages. Modest additions
Subj-class: Classical Analysis and ODEs
This is a kind of introduction to some basic topics in analysis, some of which would be covered in standard graduate courses, and some not. However, an important difference is that not much in the way of prerequisites are needed, beyond linear algebra and beginning analysis. In particular, this should be accessible to undergraduates or readers whose main focus is not necessarily pure mathematics. One could easily accommodate Lebesgue integrals and so forth if one wanted to, but they are not really needed.

"The history of psychology is largely constituted of a succession of fads overlying the continuity given by a few technological methods which have been progressively misapplied with little critical concern for their social, political, or scientific consequences. "Real" Analysis is a Degenerate Case of Discrete Analysis By Doron Zeilberger .pdf .ps .tex Written: Nov. 26, 2001 Appeared in "New Progress in Difference Equations", edited by Bernd Aulbach, Saber Elaydi, and Gerry Ladas, (Proc. ICDEA 2001), Bernd Aulbach, ed., Taylor and Frances, London. This is the transcript of a plenary talk that I gave at the ICDEA 7 (2001) meeting that took place at Augsburg this summer. It has the bare outline of an ultrafinitist philosophy of mathematics and argues for Discrete supremacy. The conference itself, orgranized by Bernd Aulbach, was a huge success, with lots of stimulating talks. Added Jan. 21, 2002: I just finished reading a very interesting article by Saber Elaydi (selaydi@trinity.edu), entitled ``Is the world evolving disretely'' that makes a similar point, but much more convincingly, about the discreteness of the physical world. Abstract Most Web search tools integrate sponsored results with results from their internal editorial database in providing results to users. The goal of this research is to get a better idea of how much of the screen real estate displays ÒrealÓ editorial results as compared to sponsored results. The overall average results are that 40% of all results presented on the first screen are ÒrealÓ results, and when the entire first Web page is considered, 67% of the results are non-sponsored results. For general search tools like Google, 56% of the first screen and 82% of the first Web page contain non-sponsored results. Other results include that query structure makes a significant difference in the percentage of non-sponsored results returned by a search. Similarly, the topic of the query can also have a significant effect on the percentage of sponsored results displayed by most Web search tools.

This is a textbook for an introductory course in complex analysis. It has been used for our undergraduate complex analysis course here at Georgia Tech and at a few other places that I know of. I owe a special debt of gratitude to Professor Matthias Beck of SUNY Binghamton who used the book in his class at Binghamton and found many errors and made many good suggestions for changes and additions to the book. I thank him very much. I have corrected the errors and made some changes. I am also grateful to Professor Pawel Hitczenko of Drexel University , who prepared the nice supplement to Chapter 10 on applications of the Residue Theorem to real integration. The notes are available as Adobe Acrobat documents. If you do not have an Adobe Acrobat Reader, you may down-load a copy, free of charge, from Adobe
