1 Hour Balloon Modelling
The Rules
(If you want to break a record that is published in a record book or governed by an international authorithy, there may be other or additional rules. See here for more information.)
  • The record is for the greatest amount of completed balloon sculptures to be made in 1 hour. All balloons must be blown up by mouth. No artificial means may be used (pumps, compressors etc.) All balloon shapes must touch the table in order to count. If the shapes pops or deflates before touching the table, it does not count. A list of at least 30 different shapes must be used. There can be no shapes made in sequence, (i.e. 5 dogs in a row does not count) The attempt must be rigidly timed and videotaped with a clock in the background. There should also be 4 personnel present, 2 counters, 1 judge and a timekeeper. No-else should be around the table. The final figure needs to be verified by the judge, then signed by all personnel present at the table.

Modelling Online Archive Development in the UK
Ian G. Anderson

University of Glasgow
Introduction
Since the mid 1990s archives have greatly expanded their online information and services, yet this is an area of archive development about which we know little. We do not know the range of online services, features and information available, how these vary between archives or how they are delivered. The process of adding to our knowledge is hampered by the lack of a template for identifying and evaluating online archive information and services or a model for understanding their development. Without this information it is difficult to identify development paths, user requirements and appropriate technology, as well as the activities that can be supported or how archives compare to other information providers. It is only by developing and testing such templates and models that we can begin to understand the current state of online archives, how they might develop and the challenges they face. Despite the hyperbole surrounding the development of the World Wide Web, and now Web 2.0, there are surprisingly few models for evaluating the evolution of online services, although criteria to judge 'good' and 'bad' web design proliferate.

Improving the structuring and collaboration capabilities of spreadsheets
Users can specify a calculation in mathematical terms using a formula. The spreadsheet then calculates the result of the formula. Users can change the formula if it is incorrect without any need to write code or re-compile. This accounts for the popularity of spreadsheets. So it is necessary to create collaborative tools that allow users to develop software in a way they will be familiar with from their use of spreadsheets. Burnett, M. M., Engels, G, Myers, B. You can either try to use a fully automatic procedure with SWISS-MODEL (the so called " First Approach Mode "), either use a manually optimised sequence alignment and use the so called "

Construction Of Heart Modelling Leads Path To New Therapies
ScienceDaily (Jan. 12, 2008) — Heart disease is still a major killer, especially in the western world, but new therapies based on stem cells and other techniques could now be imminent. Progress is being held back however by the difficulty testing new therapies on human heart tissue, with animal models being only of limited value owing to differences in structure and activity. The only solution in the absence of real human models is to create computerised "in-silico" models that simulate the real heart and enable possible drugs and therapies to be tested without risk to people. Although this is still some way off becoming a reality, substantial progress has been made, and the next steps were plotted at a major workshop held recently by the European Science Foundation. See also: The workshop highlighted how recent progress in imaging technologies was helping heart modellers overcome the big dilemma they have faced up till now actually proving that the models really are an accurate representation of the real human heart. This has been the big "catch 22" of heart modelling, that in order to create a realistic model, you need accurate and extensive data from real hearts for calibration. "Validation of the models is very important, and was raised at the workshop," said Blanca Rodriguez, scientific coordinator of the ESF workshop, and senior cardiac researcher at Oxford University, Europe's leading centre for cardiac modelling. "One of the problems has been that it is much easier to get experimental data from animals than humans."

Computational Topology Techniques for Shape Modelling
Shape understanding, as a fundamental skill for object description and representation, can traverse several application fields. In this context, mathematics provides shape descriptors, which can be successfully applied to shape analysis. Research activity at the Istituto per la Matematica Applicata e Tecnologie Informatiche (IMATI-CNR) relates to the mathematical background and application understanding that lies behind the representation and generation of shapes in computer graphics and vision. In particular, we focus on issues related to the definition of abstraction tools for high-level descriptions of complex shape models. S S f ) is represented by the sequence of the homology groups of the level sets, that is the set of points P on S such that f P ) is smaller than a given real number x . Moreover, the critical points of f determine the homology groups of S . Since the homology and homotopy groups codify shape properties as the number of connected components, holes and cavities of an object, it follows that a finite collection of level sets is sufficient to fully describe the surface shape, and is more complete than simply knowing the global homology. Focusing on the topological changes of level sets by varying

As computers become an important part of everyday life, molecular modelling is affecting all parts of chemistry, and is particularly useful in organic chemistry. But how does it work? How reliable is it? What are its limitations? Is it useful for normal chemists? In this book, published by the Royal Society of Chemistry Jonathan Goodman demystifies molecular modelling, enabling the non-specialist to appreciate the power, but also the limitations, of the computational tools available. Chemical Applications of Molecular Modelling provides a background to the methods used and describes how they have developed. It also provides many examples of ways that molecular modelling has been used to address chemical questions commonly asked by the experimental chemist, and includes many examples and case studies. It will be suitable as an undergraduate coursebook - putting normal chemistry course work into perspective with respect to modelling methods - as well as providing a useful reference for researchers. These pages are designed to support the printed book, particularly in presenting three-dimensional and interactive models and in offering opportunity for feedback.

CG Academy s training DVD on SubD Creature modelling - By Dominic Qwek.
    http://www.cg-academy.net/pages/topic_modelling/dvds_modelling_advanced_01/dvds_
In this DVD Dominic will take your through an advanced and structured approach to Sub-Division based creature modelling. He lays the foundation with a well planned and analyzed set of concept sketches that allow him to plan his models form from the outset. From here he builds the model in three distinct stages, with each stage forming a solid foundation for the next. Finally he takes you through some adjustments steps that give his model that extra realism and to ensure it functions well within a production pipeline.
This DVD is ideal for intermediate and above modellers with a firm understanding of the principles of Sub-Division modelling. Its an invaluable learning resource for modellers working within any production discipline.
In this chapter Dominic explains the basic setup that he uses for Sub-Db Modelling and goes on to explain which tools form the core of his modelling tools.
Chapter 02: Blocking The Basic Form
Once the model is underway Dominic shows how to create the basic form of the model, a very important stage that lays the foundation for all that follows.
Chapter 03: Primary Detailing (Lower Body)
In the nexy stage Dominic starts to apply the first level of modelling to the lower part of the body.

Guerrilla Threat Modelling (or 'Threat Modeling' if you're American)
Note: In a lame attempt to get Google hits, I have replaced every second instance of the word "modelling" with the incorrectly spelt version "modeling" :-) No, I'm not talking about writing a threat model for a large, furry ape (although that would be fun); I'm talking about writing quick-and-dirty threat models when you don't have time to do the real thing. If you want to do threat modelling properly, I highly recommend you read Frank and Window's "Threat Modeling" [sic] book from Microsoft Press; but if you just need to get one done , you might not have the time or inclination for that. This should go hand-in-hand with my previous post What I'm going to recommend here is a process you can follow to quickly get a threat model done. It's also the basic process I tell teams inside Microsoft to follow when they bring me in on their threat model meetings, and it's written from the perspective of "These are the things

In this section you will also find information in laymans terms about the required components and how they piece together. The installation section is purposely minimal; merely the quick and dirty steps needed to take to get up and running (if it doesn't work, more information is available). For those that want more information about the software components and what they do (in general), please continue reading. There are, at the minimum, three software packages you'll need in order to get up and running. These are as follows (in the order they are explained, not the order they are installed):

Home Mapping Toolbox Participatory 3-D Modeling About Participatory 3D Modelling (P3DM) P3DM is a relatively new communicative facilitation method conceived to support collaborative processes related mainly to resource use and tenure and aimed at facilitating grassroots participation in problem analysis and decision-making. P3DM integrates people’s knowledge and spatial information (contour lines) to produce stand-alone scale relief models that have proved to be user-friendly and relatively accurate data storage and analysis devices and at the same time excellent communication media. Participatory 3D modelling works best when used jointly with Global Positioning Systems ( GPS ) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in a Participatory GIS (PGIS) context Participatory 3D models are manufactured at village level based on the merger of traditional spatial information (elevation contours) and peoples’ spatial knowledge ( cognitive maps ). Elevation contours are used as templates for cutting out sheets of carton board of a given thickness (i.e. expressing the vertical scale). Cut-out sheets are progressively superimposed to build the relief.
