To develop a program like this needs a lot of time and patience. In the past this program was sold like shareware.
Doing this on the one hand I was excluding people who didn't have the money, on the other hand it didn't cover the expenses.
So I decided to convert the program to freeware.

A n n is bisymmetric if it is symmetric about both main diagonals, i.e. if A A T JA J where J is the exchange matrix. WARNING : The term persymmetric is sometimes used instead of bisymmetric. Also bisymmetric is sometimes used to mean centrosymmetric and sometimes to mean symmetric and perskewsymmetric.
    • A bisymmetric matrix is symmetric persymmetric and centrosymmetric . Any two of these four properties properties implies the other two.
      • More generally, symmetry, persymmetry and centrosymmetry can each come in four flavours: symmetric, skew-symmetric, hermitian and skew-hermitian. Any pair of symmetries implies the third and the total number of skew and hermitian flavourings will be even. For example, if A is skew-hermitian and perskew-symmetric, then it will also be centrohermitian.

The seminal work on dealing with not positive definite matrices is Wothke (1993). Sample covariance matrices are supposed to be positive definite.

Not Positive Definite MatricesCauses and Cures
The seminal work on dealing with not positive definite matrices is Wothke (1993) . The chapter is both reabable and comprehensive. This page uses ideas from Wothke, from SEMNET messages, and from my own experience.
    The Problem
There are four situations in which a researcher may get a message about a matrix being "not positive definite." The four situations can be very different in terms of their causes and cures. First, the researcher may get a message saying that the input covariance or correlation matrix being analyzed is "not positive definite." Generalized least squares (GLS) estimation requires that the covariance or correlation matrix analyzed must be positive definite, and maximum likelihood (ML) estimation will also perform poorly in such situations. If the matrix to be analyzed is found to be not positive definite, many programs will simply issue an error message and quit. Second, the message may refer to the asymptotic covariance matrix. This is not the covariance matrix being analyzed, but rather a weight matrix to be used with asymptotically distribution-free / weighted least squares (ADF/WLS) estimation.

    ALTERNATING SIGN MATRICES
A Conference in Honor of David P. Robbins
    June 29-30, 2003
Location: About a hundred mathematicians joined us at the IDA Center for Communications Research in Princeton , where Dave Robbins has worked for 23 years. Our new building is at 805 Bunn Drive in Princeton, NJ. The closest airports are Newark and Philadelphia, each about an hour from Princeton. To get to CCR-P from US 1 near Princeton, take Harrison Street north. One mile after the intersection with Nassau Street in downtown Princeton, fork slightly right onto Bunn Drive. After three quarters of a mile, turn right into CCR-P. The conference opened on Sunday at 10:45 am and closed on Monday at noon.
Talks: The speakers pitched their talks to mathematicians who are not experts on alternating sign matrices. For an introduction to alternating sign matrices, take a look at Dave Robbins's 1991 paper in the Mathematical Intelligencer, "The story of 1, 2, 7, 42, 429, 7436, ...", or David Bressoud's 1999 paper with Jim Propp in the Notices of the American Mathematical Society, "How the Alternating Sign Matrix Conjecture Was Solved" . The titles below are linked to the speakers' abstracts.

    Networks and Matrices

Networks can be represented as graphs or matrices. For example, here is a graph: We can also record who is connected to whom on a given social relation via what is called an adjacency matrix. The adjacency matrix is a square actor-by-actor matrix like this: And Bil Car Dan Ele Fra Gar Andy Bill Carol Dan Elena Frank Garth If the matrix as a whole is called X, then the contents of any given cell are denoted x ij . For example, in the matrix above, x ij = 1, because Andy likes Bill. Note that this matrix is not quite symmetric (x ij not always equal to x ji Anything we can represent as a graph, we can also represent as a matrix. For example, if it is a valued graph, then the matrix contains the values instead of 0s and 1s. By convention, we normally record the data so that the row person "does it to" the column person. For example, if the relation is "gives advice to", then x ij = 1 means that person i gives advice to person j, rather than the other way around. However, if the data not entered that way and we wish it to be so, we can simply transpose the matrix. The transpose of a matrix X is denoted X'. The transpose simply interchanges the rows with the columns. Matrix Algebra Matrices are basically tables. They are ways of storing numbers and other things. Typical matrix has rows and columns. Actually called a 2-way matrix because it has two dimensions. For example, you might have respondents-by-attitudes. Of course, you might collect the same data on the same people at 5 points in time. In that case, you either have 5 different 2-way matrices, or you could think of it as a 3-way matrix, that is respondent-by-attitude-by-time.

    http://www.math.duke.edu/education/ccp/materials/linalg/rotation/rotm3.html
    Rotation Matrices
    Part 3: Three-Dimensional Rotation Matrices
In R a vector can be rotated about any one of the three axes. The 3-dimensional versions of the rotation matrix A are the following matrices: P rotates a vector in R about the x -axis, Q about the x -axis, and R about the x -axis. These are not the only possible rotations in 3-space, of course, but we will limit our attention in this module to these possibilities.
  • What feature of each of the matrices P Q R tells us quickly the axis about which the rotation is being done? We saw earlier that multiplication of 2-dimensional rotation matrices is commutative, even though matrix multiplication in general is not commutative. We'll try this for 3-dimensional rotation matrices. Let P and P be the matrices for rotations of 30 and 45 degrees, respectively, around the x -axis. Compute P P and P P . What do you observe? Now compute P R and R P . What do you observe? Hold an object (such as your textbook) in front of you, and rotate it as indicated in these product matrices. Try to convince yourself that what you observed mathematically is consistent with reality! Try to generalize what you computed in the preceding steps. In particular, are any 3-dimensional rotation matrices multiplicatively commutative? If so, which ones?

    Matrices Help Relationships
William A. McWorter Jr. Once when I was a graduate student I had a conversation with a philosophy professor friend about epistomology. He said there is a problem with the referent theory of meaning. The planet Venus and the Morning Star have the same referent, the planet, but the phrases clearly have different meanings. Being a student of mathematics, I had recently learned that mathematicians treat relationships as objects like any other object. So I suggested "why not include relationships as referents?". Then the Morning Star would have as one of its referents the relationship between Venus and the morning, distinguishing that phrase from the planet Venus. The philospher said "then the universe would have too many objects". Not long after that I gave up on philosophy. It seemed to me that philosphers were not interested in the truth. They prefer to haggle endlessly over dilemmas. This same relationship can be recorded as a matrix. Label the rows and columns of matrix by E, J, and P. Place a 1 in a cell of the matrix provided the row label of the cell is related to the column label of that cell. Put zeros in all other cells of the matrix.

The Parallel Library in Control: Model Reduction (PLiCMR) package contains subroutines for model reduction of linear dynamical systems in state-space form on parallel distributed computers. Currently it contains routines for balanced truncation, singular perturbation approximation, optimal Hankel norm approximation, and stochastic balancing for stable systems using dense matrix algebra. The parallelization model is based on the approach used in ScaLAPACK . Numerical computations are based on ScaLAPACK as far as possible and communication is performed using the Basic Linear Algebra Communication Subroutines (BLACS) on top of a communication library such as PVM or MPI.
