MathGL
MathGL is a library for writing high-quality scientific graphics under Linux and Windows. It supports large arrays, plotting of one, two and three dimensional plots, and can export graphics to bitmap (PNG, JPEG, TIFF) and vector (EPS or SVG) files. It can be used from console programs, has functions for data handling and script MGL language for simplifying data plotting, supports several types of transparency and smoothed lighting, vector fonts and TeX-like symbol parsing, arbitrary curvilinear coordinate systems, has an OpenGL interface, etc. It is licensed under the GNU General Public License.

For anyone with a working knowledge of undergraduate mathematics the book is self contained. The first part is an introduction to the fundamental concept of a distribution and of integration with respect to a distribution. The second part contains the general theory of random variables and probability distributions while the third is devoted to the theory of sampling, statistical estimation, and tests of significance. was Professor of Actuarial Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics, and director of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics at the University of Stockholm. Research Interests of the Statistics Group
The group is interested in a number of areas of probability and statistics. Statistics is a discipline now used in all areas of the sciences and social sciences and underlies the making of scientific inferences under uncertainty. Probability is the mathematical theory which underlies statistics; it is also used to model physical and biological phenomena. The major strengths of the group are in applied probability and asymptotic methods in statistics, although work in applied statistics, time series and statistical inference is also pursued.
Research Areas
  • Probability Theory
Limit theorems and approximations, occupancy problems, martingale theory, exchangeability, probability inequalities.

Constrained Sequential Monte Carlo (CSMC)
Many problems in application share a common feature - the target distribution is highly constrained. That is, the target distribution is a truncated distribution on an ill-shaped subspace of a high dimensional space. The constraints, without careful treatments, are a main source of obstacles in successful implementations of SMC. In this talk, we develop a set of algorithms categorized as Constrained Sequential Monte Carlo (CSMC) for solving such problems, including strategies in designing the intermediate distributions, the trial distributions, the resampling steps and Markov moves with CSMC.
