Welcome The School of Computer Science and Mathematics offers a number of postgraduate and undergraduate research Our courses equip graduates with the analytical ability, factual knowledge and communication skills to enable them to work effectively in business and industry. A significant feature of the courses is the effort made to involve students in the solution of real world problems. Recent experience indicates that graduates can expect to find employment in industry, commerce and government in areas such as software engineering, programming, information systems, quality management, statistical analysis, economic planning, systems development, market research, production planning and secondary teaching. Graduates are eligible for membership of the Australian Computer Society at the professional level (which is the highest possible level for students). and the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (UK).

Third Colloquium on Mathematics and Computer Science
Algorithms, Trees, Combinatorics and Probabilities
September 13-17, 2004, Vienna, Austria
Welcome to the homepage of the Third Colloquium on Mathematics and Computer Science, which will be held from September 13-17, 2004, at the Vienna University of Technology in Vienna, Austria. On this site you can find the following informations:
Scope
This colloquium is the fourth one in a series of events that began at the University of Versailles Saint-Quentin with the ``Colloque Arbres'' in June 1995, then went on to the First Colloquium on Mathematics and Computer Science in September 2000, again in Versailles. These meetings aim at creating a forum for researchers working on the closely related domains of probabilities, trees, algorithms and combinatorics. Basic data structures of Computer Science, such as trees or graphs, can, and should, be studied from several points of view: as the data structure underlying some algorithms, or as a combinatorial or probabilistic object... The first meeting in 1995 was well received both by mathematicians and by computer science researchers, and was followed by an increasing cooperation between both communities. The next step was the organization of the First Colloquium on Mathematics and Computer Science in September 2000. With the organization of the 2004 Colloquium, we hope to make further progress towards establishing a regular meeting place for discussion of topics at the boundary between probabilities, statistics, and fundamental computer science. A closely related event is the annual

Mathematics is the art and science of abstraction; it is the systematic study of quantity, structure, space, and change; to paraphrase Newton, it is the language in which the universe is written. The study of mathematics provides the abilities to analyze data, discover patterns, and reason logically.
Computer Science is the fusion of abstraction and technology; it is the study of representing, processing, and communicating information, the design and analysis of algorithms, and the implementation of solutions through both hardware and software. The study of computer science is both theoretical and practical, and provides the abilities to develop and to maintain software.
Faculty Hiring: Adelphi University invities applications for the position of Chair of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department.
The department currently consists of nine full time faculty positions and offers degrees in mathematics, computer science, and computer management and information systems. A majority of mathematics majors at Adelphi are preparing for careers in education. A majority of computer science and computer management information systems majors are preparing for careers in industry.
The position requires a doctorate in mathematics or computer science. The successful candidate will have a strong record of scholarship and excellence in teaching, the ability to communicate with all members of the department, an interest in working with future teachers, experience with new program development, and demonstrated leadership skills. Applicants should apply online at the

Mathematics Tutoring Lab ... American Mathematical Society The mathematics major is a broad-based program which prepares students for a lifetime of learning, leadership, and service in an increasingly technical society. Through careful advising and personal attention, the program is tailored to meet the needs of students who wish to enter a career in business or industry, teach at the secondary or post-secondary level, or pursue graduate education in a variety of disciplines. Students majoring in computer science study the scientific and mathematical principles underlying computer hardware, computer systems, programming and the design and analysis of algorithms. These same areas are also explored in a hands-on manner that encourages students to become competent practitioners in the field. Demand for professionals in computer science continues to increase as uses for computer technology expand.
