Electronic computers made these repeated calculations practical. One of the earliest electronic digital computers, ENIAC, was used to run simple weather forecasting models. An early pioneer of the theory was Edward Lorenz whose interest in chaos came about accidentally through his work on weather prediction in 1961. Lorenz was using a basic computer, a Royal McBee LGP-30, to run his weather simulation. He wanted to see a sequence of data again and to save time he started the simulation in the middle of its course. ChaosScenario March 14, 2008 Social Media Overload Tony Chimento of Living Forward raised some interesting points questioning the value of some of the social networking tools we use. He reminds us that to actively and usefully participate in Twitter, Myspace, and Facebook, it takes a lot of work and requires navigating around and through a lot of clutter. The more clutter we have to sift through, the less time we have to do other things that we want to do. The less time we have to do what we want to do, the less freedom we have. I guess you could conclude, then, that more clutter means less freedom. I know what he means. I hardly use Myspace and Facebook anymore. I am grateful to them both since they have allowed me to find some people I hadn't heard from in years, but as a communications tool, they just fall flat. Twitter is much more useful , since it allows me to communicate with a group of people at once, as if we were all sitting in the same room together. I have asked questions and had them answered immediately by whomever happened to be on at that moment. It would have taken me far more time to find the answer by another means.
