Welcome to AstroWeb - a collection of pointers to astronomy-related information available on the Internet. The database is maintained by the AstroWeb Consortium , a collaboration involving 9 individuals at 7 institutions. In addition to classified lists of resource records, the Consortium also provides a utility to search the AstroWeb database: (WAIS search help) Most of the URLs in the database are tested three times a day to verify aliveness (see "AstroWeb Dead URLs" and "AstroWeb Unreliable URLs" ). The Consortium will be pleased to accept contributions of new resource records. You can use HTML forms to This NRAO version of AstroWeb is recomputed at about 09:10 UTC each day, if the master database has been changed. About Astrophysical.org
Astrophysics on astrophysical.org
Astrophysics
is the branch of astronomy that deals with the physical properties of stars , galaxies, and other astronomical objects. Among such characteristics are: temperature, luminosity, color, density and chemical composition of stars.
Cosmology is theoretical astrophysics at its largest scale, involving the structure of the whole universe. Astrophysical research is important for physics at atomic and subatomic scales. Most of modern astronomical research involves a substantial amount of physics and can be considered astrophysics. However, astronomy is considered to be separated into 3 traditional branches: astrometry and celestial mechanics are the classical fields of astronomy; astrophysics is the modern field. The current high status of astrophysics is reflected in the naming of institutions involved in astronomical research: the oldest ones are "astronomy" departments or institutes, the newest ones include "astrophysics" in their names, often excluding the word "astronomy". Astrometry and celestial mechanics are so related that they may be considered a single branch: for this reason, the Scientia websites are only two

This innovation has become possible only recently, due to the availability and affordability of sophisticated computer hardware and software. We have developed a laboratory experience for non-scientists who need an introductory course in astronomy/physics. Our approach makes extensive use of computers in this laboratory. Using commercially available software, such as Starry Night , the students use the computer as a time machine and a space craft to explore and rediscover fundamental science. Other simulation software is available, such as:
Dance of the Planets
Distant Suns
Expert Astronomer
Redshift ...
Skyglobe
This Web page will be of interest to instructors of college students or advanced high school students in astronomy or physics. In addition, anyone who may be interested in commercially available astronomy software may see how it can be used. There is also a companion Astronomy Resource Page with links and software. The astronomy laboratory experiments are computer simulations of phenomena, events, and concepts. Freed from the bounds of time, fixed location, or bad weather, the student is permitted to simulate :
