Description

Religion provides a regular survey of current work in major and specific areas of enquiry. Its swift reviewing and crossing of traditional frontiers to encompass such related studies as psychology and archaeology combine to make it a valued point of reference for a growing readership.
Already well known for its strong and established interest in comparative and pioneering work, the journal has expanded its coverage of the varied disciplines that together embrace the history, structure, and general theory of religions of the world. The editorial management of Religion is organized through two boards, one American and one European, thereby significantly increasing the scope of the journal and reinforcing its position as the International forum for debate and scholarship in the field.

specializes in books on analytical psychology inspired by and extending the work of C. G. Jung. Many of our titles also explore the psychology of religion, mythology, literature and feminism, in addition to translations of seminal works from Europe. As implied by the name Chirona centaur and therefore an image bridging different modes of human existenceour selection embraces many areas of thought and discourse. Chiron is the most celebrated of the centaurs of Greek mythology. Chiron was entrusted with the rearing and education of many Greek heroes including the healer Aesculapius. Descended from an ancient race, half-human and half-beast, centaurs were liminal figures who linked the instinctual and spiritual dimensions of human existence. Figures like Chiron symbolize a link between the wisdom of the body and newer forms of human consciousness.

Psychology and Literature
"Sublunary Deli ghts,"
an excerpt from the novella Doctor Pluss by Rob Couteau. Published in: Hawaii Pacific Review . Vol. 16, Fall 2002. (Honolulu, HA: Hawaii Pacific University.) Rob Couteau Sublunary Delights
He coughed his way through billows of cigarette smoke that whirled lazily about the room. Wall-length mirrors glared under flickering florescent lights. Battered chairs and worn-out sofas, gutted of stuffing and redolent with mold, were scattered about. Several skinny old men sat round a grimy table, sipping coffee. Stuart Myzer sat on a nearby bench, a cup of coffee steaming beside him. He was so detached, so uninspired by life that Pluss had come to admire the purity of his laziness and sloth. Besides eating and sleeping, his only remaining passion was to unmercifully tease the other patients who wandered about the asylum. Stuart was fond of annoying Angelica Pinn, who was often seen pushing a shopping cart from which she dispensed used clothing and other tattered donations.  Angelica was also prone to preach: a quality that deeply disturbed Stuart. Sermonizing, he complained, was an unbecoming form of behavior, especially for a fellow mental patient. He couldn’t comprehend why it was tolerated. After all, he reasoned with Pluss, why bother getting committed if you can’t enjoy some peace and tranquility? If you can’t relish your free cup of morning coffee?

By Karen Keeley (this is part 1) (part 2 MBTI personality types and more) HEADINGS of each section if you wish. Each heading is also a link to a related page for those who desire further information). Are you a "Cultural Creative?" Find out on Consciousness page 2 WHAT IS CONSCIOUSNESS? another good introduction on consciousness (but watch out for the typographical errors). The roots of the word consciousness itself provide an important clue to what it really means: if you look up this word in any dictionary, you will find that its original meaning was "to know WITH." With whom? Some of the sites below may help provide answers. Most people assume that their own consciousness is separate and distinct from every other person's consciousness, but is there actually a JOINT consciousness when individuals reach a higher (or deeper) level of awareness? The scriptures admonish people to become ONE: "of one mind" and "one heart," to have "the same mind," "the mind of the Spirit" and "the mind of Christ," to reach a state of communion with "an innumerable company." Would they say these things if such a unified state of consciousness wasn't possible? WHAT IS SPIRITUALITY?

60. Steiner, Rudolf

http://www.themystica.org/mystica/articles/s/steiner_rudolf.html
Back to Home Page or Contents Page or People or Index Steiner, Rudolf S teiner is the founder of Anthroposophy . Consider a philosopher and educator in his own right; his teachings embody philosophy, the social sciences, the natural sciences, agricultural, the arts, education, psychology, and religion. Commonly Anthroposophy is said to be based on what Steiner called Spiritual Science; however, in An Outline of Occult Science (1972) in a footnote Steiner writes: "The term 'spiritual science' as is apparent from the context, is here synonymous with the terms 'occult science' and supersensible knowledge.'" ( ) Anthroposophy is a unique combination of Rosicrucian, Theosophy, and Christianity. On February 27, 1861, Steiner was born in Kraljevic, then a part of Hungary and now in Yugoslavia. His parents were Austrian. His father was a railway clerk and intended his son to become a civil engineer. By the age of eight, Steiner possessed clairvoyance awareness of the unseen. The apparition of a dead relative and the visualization of energies produced by the plant kingdom were among his experiences. When discovering geometry in school, he perceived the geometric forms as living realities. Steiner, when fifteen, began learning the secret occult lore of plants from Felix Korgutski who eventually introduced him to an adept that was referred to as "the Master," who spiritually initiated him. Steiner never revealed the identity of this latter individual, according to occult tradition.
