17 - 19 June 2005 PSYCHOLOGY, THEMES AND VARIATIONS Dr Craig Boswell This course will introduce and discuss the core issues and concepts that make psychology a science. The main topics, principal characters, and leading theories in the field are reviewed. This course includes a discussion of the methods used to study human thought, experience, and behaviour. WORLD RELIGIONS: AN INTRODUCTORY EXPERIENCE The World Religions courses will be dealing, as experientially as possible, with the beliefs and practices of major world faiths, like Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Islam and Judaism. No prior commitment to a faith is expected or assumed. All those of an open mind, willing to learn what it means to be a practising member of these faiths, will be very welcome to join us on what we hope will be a stimulating and enjoyable exploration of a fascinating range of beliefs. 24 - 26 June 2005 HINDUISM II Cathy Michell This course will build on the introductory 'glimpses' of Hinduism presented in 2003. It will aim to deepen students' understanding of Hindu beliefs and practices, drawing on key Hindu texts such as the Upanisads and Mahabharata and discussing current issues in the light of these - war and peace, the role and status of women, the family and society, Hindu nationalism.
