Social Science of Physical Activity
Emphasis in Exercise and Sport Psychology Defining the Field
he last decade has witnessed an increasing growth of interest in the field of exercise and sport psychology. The basic concerns of exercise and sport psychology fall into two areas: (1) how psychological and physiological factors influence exercise and sport behavior, and (2) how exercise and sport experiences influence the psychological and physiological functioning of individuals. Exercise and sport psychology employs psychological theories and principles in an effort to understand, predict, and promote exercise and sport-related behavior. Although not limited to these areas, topics falling under the rubric of exercise psychology might include adoption and adherence issues in exercise, exercise effects on cognitive and psychosocial function, exercise effects on brain activation, body image and physical activity, exercise and stress reactivity. Exercise psychology is related to, but not synonymous with sport and health psychology. Exercise is the process of interest and, as such, involves the interplay of kinesiology, psychology, and physiology. Sample topics that are studied in sport psychology include motivational processes, attention, social influence relationships, personality, arousal regulation, and children's psychological development through sport. Although such topics as stress management, arousal, attentional control, and other psychological skills are covered in course work, the graduate program in sport psychology is not directed toward performance enhancement.

How Mental Exercise Can Help You
The mind and the body are linked in the same way different parts of a computer are linked. Your mind tells your body what movements to make and your body tells your mind what it is seeing, feeling etc. The mind is the most powerful computer in the world and it can help your body to achieve amazing things. It can help show your body how to make rockets and go into space but for the purposes of sporting excellence and achievement it can help you to be the best you possibly can be. Just how good is this? Who knows! You will have to answer that one yourself. Hypnosis and applied sport psychology can help in many ways. 1. Goal setting Achievement and performance goals as well as states, eg confidence, motivation.
2. Mental Imagery How is it going to be when I achieve those states and goals?

Most of these addicts are women, ages 35-60 that are “running on a treadmill for hours, spinning out of control or climbing stairs that lead to nowhere”1 because they have lost their physical, emotional and spiritual balance. They are unhappy in their lives wondering whether or not they have accomplished anything significant and are unhappy with their appearance. This article is going to discuss positive versus negative exercise addiction, addiction and the brain, the personality of an addict, and how trainers might help offset exercise addiction. Positive versus negative exercise addiction Exercise addiction is a psychological and/or physiological dependence on a regular exercise program that is characterized by withdrawal symptoms after 24-36 hours of no exercise. These symptoms may include: anxiety, irritability, nervousness, guilt, etc which only occurs if a person is prevented from exercise due to circumstances beyond their control.2
