    What Is Forensic Psychology, Exactly?
(AKA : Before You Can Test Anything, You Must Operationally Define What You Seek!) Forensic Psychology : The application of the science and profession of psychology to questions and issues relating to the law and the legal system. The word "forensic" comes from the Latin word "forensis", meaning
"of the forum", where the law courts of ancient Rome were held. Today, "forensic" refers to the application of scientific principles and practices to the adversary process where specially knowledgeable scientists play a role.
HOWEVER... generally, most involvement of psychological professionals in a legal capacity or within the legal community is considered "Forensic Psychology". Furthermore, the question of what Forensics is exactly is still under debate within professional circles. Such discrepancies were discussed in an excellent address by the President of the AP-LS in 1998, and I highly recommend reading it. Brigham, J. C. (1999). What is forensic psychology anyway? (For laymen, Volume 23, No.3)

These are the types of cases into which a forensic psychologist (or psychiatrist) may be called, for purposes that range from assessment to testimony to treatment. This discipline involves psychology in the law, by the law, and of the law. Wherever the legal system and psychology intersect, you have forensic psychology. Such professionals use their expertise with human behavior, motivation, and psychopathology to provide psychological services for the courts, and may also consult in criminal investigations. They may be asked to appraise behaviors such as malingering (faking symptoms of an illness), confessing to a crime, or acting suicidal. While most such practitioners are clinicians with a specialization in forensic issues, this applied discipline also involves those who engage in research relevant to legal issues.

September Sacrifice Kiss Me, Kill Me : Ann Rule's Crime Files Vol. 9 (Ann Rule's Crime Files) Ann Rule reveals how lovers become predators, how sex and lust can push ordinary people to desperate acts, and how investigators and forensics experts work to unravel the most entangled crimes of passion. Rule re-creates the ill-fated chains of events in such cases as the ex-Marine and martial arts master who seduced vulnerable women and then destroyed their lives...the killer whose calling card was a single bloodred rose...the faithless wife who manipulated and murdered without conscience...the blind date that set the stage for a killer's brutality...and more. In every case, the victim young and innocent or older and experienced unknowingly trusted a stranger with the sociopathic skill to hide their dark motives, until it was too late to escape a web of deadly lies, fatal promises, and homicidal possession.
