The Future Of Humanistic Psychology
Through Humanistic psychology, challenges to scientism have been done by psychologists and the significance of a human science approach to psychology has been able to take place. Though not a very favorite subject among psychologists, it is fast gaining popularity. However, psychologists are not completely focusing on its content, the philosophical issues and the methodological approach as much as is required. It has not received the desired recognition or progress which is expected from the field. [Aanstoos, 1994; Moss, 1999a] Enter Your Term Paper Topic Here:

Assessment: Personality Inventories
This course introduces widely used instruments of self-reporting personality assessment, predominately pencil-and-paper personality tests. Students examine rationale, administration, scoring and interpretation of these measures. They also study information on the use of automated procedures, the appropriate application of these tests and the ethical considerations in their use in both clinical and non-clinical settings. Students are encouraged to make a critical assessment of personality inventories in light of reliability and validation studies. They determine their usefulness and explore how appropriate these instruments are in terms of language, gender and cultural bias. Historical and Social Perspectives in Psychology
Students examine the larger socio-cultural context of psychology, exploring its historical roots and development, its place in the contemporary world and its potential future in response to the needs of the 21st century. This course is intended to foster in students an ability to think creatively about the possibilities and to act as informed change agents in the world. Multicultural Perspectives
Students utilize principles and concepts of social psychology to acquire an increased understanding of stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination directed toward various target groups. The course emphasizes understanding racism, sexism, heterosexism, classism and ageism. It utilizes multicultural and social constructionist perspectives to learn how to perform effective clinical work with individuals of different cultures, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, socioeconomic status, ages and abilities. This course is the second in a two-quarter sequence. Prerequisite: Family of Origin.

Course Description:
This course explores existential philosophy's principal concepts, texts and thinkers, with an emphasis on their significance for psychological theory and praxis. Course Objectives: (1) This course seeks to impart a firm understanding of existentialism's central concepts, texts and thinkers. (2) This course seeks to explore the significance of existentialism for psychology both theoretically and practically. (3) This course seeks to call the student into a deeper, more powerful appropriation of his or her own existence. Course Requirements: There will be three non-cumulative tests during the semester, each worth one third of the final grade. The dates of these tests will be announced beforehand in class. The tests will consist of a combination of short definition, short answer and essay. While there is no attendance requirement as such for this course, it is imperative that you keep abreast of what's going on. Some reasons for this are: (1) test dates are announced in class, (2) much of the material on the tests will come directly from the class notes and discussions, and (3) half of life is just showing up.

(2) This course seeks to explore the significance of existentialism for psychology both theoretically and practically. (3) This course seeks to call the student into a deeper, more powerful appropriation of his or her own existence. Course Format: To assist you in acquiring an initial fluency in existentialism’s basic ideas and vocabulary, the first several classes will be in lecture-format, but the class will evolve (hopefully quickly) toward seminar-format over the course of the quarter. Hence, your attendance and participation are important. Finally, you should be aware that in order to allow for a more free-form expression of class-interest, there will be some variability in the reading assignments themselves, as well as in their timing. It is your responsibility to stay abreast of all of this.

The Society for Laingian Studies is an international online society dedicated to furthering discussion, research and scholarship in the philosophy and practice of Ronald David Laing. The Society was co-founded by Daniel Burston of Pittsburgh, USA and Margreta Carr in Toronto, Canada, in December 2002, intended to be a 'virtual society' of individuals from all walks of life with an interest in Ronald Laing's life and work. The Society was a significant milestone in the evolution of 'Laingian Studies', evolving from the Unofficial R.D. Laing site, which Margreta had redesigned and had been developing since the autumn of 2000. In January 2004, the history of Laing scholarship saw a momentous event in the founding of the International R.D. Laing Institute (ILI)
a professional association of Laingian practitioners and scholars, under the direction of Theodor Itten in St. Gallen, Switzerland. The ILI will be conducting seminars, lectures and master classes, while the SLS continues to make materials for research and scholarship available online. This is a very extraordinary development, as the ILI and SLS work in complementary purpose to reify Ronald Laing's profound contribution not only to understanding the nature of soul, its joy as well as suffering, but also to

An Analysis of Existential Psychology. This paper will discuss the contributions to existential psychology, which has been a motivating force in the merging of philosophy and psychological theory. By showing the influence of R.D. Laing, Rollo May, and Viktor Frankl, we can see how this style of psychology was made, and why it was slowly becoming a 'school' of thought. Some of the theories of these men will be sited to show their influences, and how they came into the idea of existential psychology.

EXISTENTIAL PSYCHOLOGY AND THERAPY: AN OUTLINE OF HUMAN BEING DILEMMAS
RIMANTAS KOÈIÛNAS The present article describes the main principles of existential psychology and its application to counseling and psychotherapy. The key philosophical reference points of existential psychology and therapy are formulated here. When we speak about the novelty of existential psychology we should mention first of all the idea of the total, indissoluble interrelationship of the individual and his/her world. Each individual and his/her world are said to coconstitute one another. Existential psychology posits after L. Binswanger three different planes of the world that characterize our life as Being-in-the-world: (1) Umwelt - the surrounding world; (2) Mitwelt - the world of other people and relations with them; (3) Eigenwelt - our own world and our relations to ourselves. Another important principle of existential psychology is understanding the individual and his/her life in view of his/her intrinsic ontological characteristics. The main characteristics are finiteness of life (death), anxiety, and guilt.
