A Brief Biography of Calvin S. Hall
The guy who started this whole thing
Calvin S. Hall, Jr. (1909-1985), psychologist, was born in Seattle, Washington; he was the son of Calvin S. Hall, a justice on the state supreme court, and Dovre Johnson. From 1935 to 1975, Hall was one of the most creative and visible psychologists in the United States. He made major contributions to the study of temperament and behavior genetics early in his career with his work on the inheritance of emotionality in rats and his discovery that a single dominant gene led to acoustical traumas in one inbred strain of mice; his chapter in the Handbook of Experimental Psychology (1951) is considered one of the founding statements of modern behavior genetics. In the 1940's, Hall began three decades of systematic work on dreams that led to many theoretical, methodological, and empirical contributions. In the 1950's, his clearly written and best-selling expository works, A Primer of Freudian Psychology (1954) and Theories of Personality (1957), the latter co-authored with Gardner Lindzey, helped create an emphasis on personality within psychology for the next two decades. Later he wrote

Yoga Psychology and the Importance of Dreams for mental health
By Arun Goel To understand the cause of all mental conflicts and diseases, we must understand that the mind comprises a conscious part and a sub conscious part. Conflicts and mental turbulence occurs because we cannot reconcile our conscious part with what is going on inside the deeper realms of the mind. Further, the subconscious mind itself is the home of many negative thoughts that are in a constant tussle with each other. The aim in yoga psychology (as also in the modern psychology that we are aware of) is to reconcile these conflicts and bring them in harmony with the conscious mind. How the subconscious is formed According to Swami Satyananda every action has a momentum. At the end of every momentum a seed is dropped into the subconscious, which is a memory of that action. These 'seeds' are called Samskaras in yoga or archetypes in psychology.

Dreams, a nightly gift and a part of the natural process of being alive,
are being rediscovered by our publisher. The meaning and value of your dreams
will vary according to what you and your society decide. Our society is
changing. We used to only value dreams in the context of psychotherapy. There
are also a few assumptions about dreams. One is that you are always the final
authority on what the dream means. Others can offer insight, suggestions and
techniques for exploration and expression, but no one knows what the final
meaning and value of the dreams will be for you, except you. Another assumption is that dreams come in the service of wholeness and health. If you find an interpretation that does not fit this, perhaps you need to change methods of interpretation. Dream interpretations that lead you toward self-criticism

Have you ever wondered why programming types do not allow certain soap actors on television after 4 PM? Very simply, these actors look the part, but can seldom act the part, at least not at the level to which we've grown accustomed by film and prime time television. Network programmers realize not a lot of people are watching TV at these hours, so they court, compete for, and capture available viewers, as cheaply as possible, by dousing them with drama and appearances.
Would you be surprised to learn that the above statement would be no less truthful if I replaced 'soap actors' with 'dream researchers.' This point was hammered home rather unwittingly by journalists Barbara Kantrowitz and Karen Springen, whose Science report "What Dreams Are Made Of" for the August 9 (2004) issue of Newsweek
If you ever enrolled in a psychology course, no doubt at some point you were taught to believe that the royal road to excellence in science is the road of skepticism, precision, and materialism. The

Not only all humans, but in fact all mammals are shown to have REM sleep, which is associated with dreams. It is a normal and necessary function of the body (though the details, especially the exact reason why it is important, are unknown). So if you think you don't dream you probably just don't remember. People vary greatly in how much they remember of their dreams. The perhaps most important reason why people forget their dreams is that they don't care. Western culture does not regard dreams as especially important, rather it regards getting out of the bed in time as a prevalent survival factor. This is bad in two respects as most dreams occur at the end of the sleeping cycle and are often interrupted, and the necessity of getting up fast and keeping up with the schedule occupies peoples' minds and prevents them from thinking about their dreams in the morning. Dream recall can be trained. Try to think over all what you have dreamed for some time before getting up and write it down soon afterwards.

Dealing With People You Can't Stand.
I bought Dealing with people You Can't Stand to pass some time while waiting...the perils of not bringing a book... To my surprise, this turned out to be a little goldmine of good ideas, presented in a way that a lot of people can carry away the messages. If someone at work is chapping your hide, I strongly recommend that you buy this book, read it, and map out some strategies for change. This isn't a "how to hurt the bad guy till he stops"this is developing your own capacity to manage your emotions and think on your feet. Rick Brinkman and Rick Kirschner evidently met in college, and wrote this book as

Most any spiritual sojourner interested in the growth and healing of Soul will, at the very least, find Jung's ideas fascinating. You might even feel like you've finally come home... And for those of you surfing through who are already well acquainted with Jung and Jungian Psychology? The Journey into Unus Mundus might even manage to have a surprise or two waiting for you. Psychology Professor Explains Precognitive Dreams in Bin Laden Video Tape
"It is not too surprising to learn that a number of Bin Laden's most devout followers may have had dreams that in one way or another seemed to forecast the events of 9/11, " says Sonoma State University psychology professor David Van Nuys. There is a vast body of work in the field of parapsychology that supports the phenomenon of "precognitive dreams," that is dreams that somehow foreshadow future events, says Van Nuys, who is also chair of the university's psychology department. "These dreams are never exact replicas of the future but, when they occur, have enough similarities to be compelling." Parapsychological research has shown, in fact, that the most likely place for "psi," or ESP, to occur is, in fact, during the dream state or other altered states of consciousness, he reports.
