Students are kept abreast of the latest scientific advances and research methods in this burgeoning field. The department offers a bachelor of arts degree in psychology, as well as two specialized programs: a BA concentration in clinical/counseling and a bachelor of science degree in psychology with a concentration in behavioral neuroscience. The curriculum in psychology and behavioral neuroscience is designed to provide a strong background in the biobehavioral sciences and to prepare students for entry into graduate programs in experimental psychology, clinical/counseling psychology, neuroscience, medicine, and related fields. The course offerings reflect both the basic scientific content of psychology as well as its application in the clinical setting or in the business world. The department heavily stresses faculty-student interaction through laboratories and internships. A psychology club is open to all interested students, and a chapter of Psi Chi, the national honor society in psychology, also provides supplementary activities.

Most Frequently-Asked Questions
about the Program
1. Application deadlines on The Graduate School Web site seem to conflict with the rolling admissions process detailed in thi s b rochure and I want to know which one is correct? The Graduate School Web site contains application information for both masters and doctoral program candidates and different programs have different deadlines. Any reference made to the December 31 st deadline for applications does not refer to the Masters Program in Counseling Psychology. Applicants to the Masters program may submit an application at any time; students are accepted on a rolling admissions basis until all available slots are filled. 2. What are the minimum eligibility requirements for admission to the program, such as GRE scores and grades?
All elements of the application are given equal consideration and viewed together, so that weaknesses in one area may be offset by strengths in another. It is recommended that each applicant use the essay to explain any elements that do not accurately reflect his or her actual potential to succeed in the program. Some type of prior human service/social service experience is highly valued for applicants to the Standard Curriculum. 3. Does the program offer evening and weekend classes?

Supervised Field Training Clinical Experiences Training Settings Field Training Procedures Field Training Comparison Coordinated supervised field training in clinical and clinical/research skills is a critical component of the program. The general goals of the field training are to enable students to: 1) acquire and practice direct clinical service (assessment and intervention) skills; 2) develop the capacity for critical self-observation and evaluation; 3) observe and conceptualize various aspects of human behavior and interaction; 4) confront and resolve complex issues related to human service delivery; 5) formulate novel theoretical constructs and hypotheses about client systems and social contexts.
Clinical Experiences Pre-practicum
Approximately 10-15 hours per week for nine-twelve months
Practicum
Approximately 16-20 hours per week for nine-twelve months
The practicum experience, taken in conjunction with the course sequence 480 Counseling Methods I, II, and III, is designed to provide a general orientation to human service and mental health service delivery, the opportunity for systematic application of a basic repertoire of psychological skills, and an introduction to supervision and the intensive supervisory relationship. Practicum field sites are particularly equipped to introduce students to these dimensions of service delivery on a limited time basis, and typical settings include community mental health centers, hospital outpatient services and college/university counseling centers. In addition to the clinical supervisor at the field site, all practicum students are assigned a University-based supervisor with whom they meet weekly throughout the year to practice clinical skills and to review course assignments.
