Applied Behavior Analysis
This program provides a formal background in the theory and practice of Applied Behavior Analysis. Behavior analysis is used most widely with clinical populations in the area of developmental disabilities, including but not limited to clients diagnosed as mentally retarded and/or autistic. The program requires completion of 18 credits, and is designed so that all requirements can be met within one calendar year (Fall, Spring, and Summer sessions). The curriculum consists of 9 credits in basic courses in behavior analysis, 6 credits in advanced courses, and 3 practicum credits. The Behavior Analyst Certification Board, Inc. has approved the following course sequence as meeting the coursework requirements for eligibility to take the Board Certified Behavior Analyst Examination.       Applied Behavior Analysis Certification Program
      The Department of Special Education offers a training program in behavior analysis. Students can select from fifth-year, master's, and doctoral degree options. The behavior analysis program is only offered in conjunction with a primary specialization in behavior disorders, early childhood special education, or severe disabilities. Students in the behavior analysis program are taught to conduct functional behavioral assessments, write behavior intervention programs, and to consult/implement those intervention programs for a range of individuals with behavior problems.
      Students are required to take the following five courses in addition to their degree required coursework:
      Required Sequence:
      SPED 3017 - Experimental Analysis of Behavior (3 hours)
      SPED 3210 - Managing Academic and Social Behavior (3 hours)
      SPED 3013 - Intro to Single-Subject Methodology (3 hours)
      SPED 3860 - Advanced Procedures in Classroom Management (3 hours)
      SPED 3014 - Advanced Procedures in Single-Subject Methodology (3 hours)
      18 Month Internship Requirements:
      6 months of supervised research assistant work (10 hours per week) 6 months of supervised behavior analysis clinic work (10 hours per week) 6 months of supervised thesis research work (10 hours per week) Total = 18 months (720 hours)

About the Department of Behavior Analysis

The Department of Behavior Analysis offers graduate and undergraduate degree programs on the UNT campus in Denton, as well as a graduate certificate program for distant professionals interested in continuing their behavior analysis education. A faculty of 7 nationally recognized full-time faculty, supported by outstanding adjunct faculty specializing in a variety of sub-fields, offer students a broad range of experiences in the classroom, research laboratories and applied settings.
The department's master of science degree program was the first graduate program in the nation to be accredited by the Association for Behavior Analysis and its graduates are recruited by employers across the nation. The program has attracted students from Brazil, Canada, China, Columbia, England, Iceland, Japan, Mexico, and Norway as well as from 17 states in the U. S. Whether its alumni go on to pursue a doctoral degree or assume professional positions in the community, they are consistently viewed in their new settings as highly accomplished behavior analysts.
The department offers the nation's first bachelor of science degree in Applied Behavior Analysis . The curriculum provides for intensive training in behavior analysis principles and applications in the context of a broad general education. It has been designed to allow students to have a double major without significantly lengthening the time it takes to graduate.
