Wright, Robert (b. 1914) , and George "Chet" Forrest
page: For over seventy years Robert Wright and George Forrest were partners in life and art. Together they wrote music and lyrics for film, stage, and club acts. They specialized in adapting themes from classical music into engaging tunes for movie scores and stage musicals. George Forrest Chichester, Jr., later to be known professionally as Chet Forrest, was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 31, 1915. A musical prodigy, despite scant formal training he was playing the piano masterfully before he even started school. Sponsor Message.
In the early 1920s the Chichester family moved to Florida. By the age of thirteen Forrest had launched his musical career, playing in clubs in Miami. He was also a member of the Miami High School glee club, through which he met his future life partner, Robert Wright, who was the club's pianist. Wright, born on September 25, 1914 in Daytona Beach, Florida, had also taken early to music. By the time he met Forrest he was the conductor of a radio show.

Composer Robert Wright dies

NEW YORK (AP) - Robert Wright, a composer and lyricist who collaborated with George Forrest on the scores for such Broadway musicals as Kismet, Song of Norway and Grand Hotel, has died at the age of 90. Wright died Wednesday at his Miami home of natural causes, said his brother, Jack Wright, of Gloversville, N.Y. For much of their careers, Wright and Forrest specialized in adapting someone else's music, usually a classical composer, and spinning it into something new. They used their talent, for example, to take an obscure wedding dance by Edvard Grieg and turn it into Strange Music, a smash from Song of Norway (1944). They later transformed the exotic themes of Russian composer Alexander Borodin into songs such as Stranger in Paradise and Baubles, Bangles and Beads for Kismet (1953), which won a Tony Award for best musical. The songwriting team did much the same thing in Hollywood, working on dozens of films including Maytime, Sweethearts and I Married an Angel. Among their Hollywood hit tunes was The Donkey Serenade, adapted from a piano piece by Rudolf Friml and sung by Allan Jones in the film The Firefly (1937).

The Fairy Shoemaker , at a concert in the Brighton Festival. The publishers, Forsyth, bought it outright for a guinea and a half! In 1934 the Gipps family moved to a large detached house in De La Warr Road, which later became the Bexhill School of Music. For Christmas 1935 Ruth was given her own baby grand by her brother, Bryan. She had already taken her final grade examinations and won an open concerto class in a North London Music Festival with the first movement of Beethoven's Emperor Concerto At College she went to R O Morris for composition and theory. Morris was a formidable but quiet man - tall, straight, grey-haired and very kind. On one occasion when his student criticised Rubbra's orchestration of Brahms's Handel Variations , he merely smiled. The death of Harold Samuel meant piano studies were taken with Herbert Fryer. Here she felt she was treated as a child and became understandably angry, frustrated and increasingly bad-mannered. She transferred to Arthur Alexander for piano lessons; joined the choral classes conducted by Reginald Jacques, whose very fine accompanist was an older student, later becoming the outstanding conductor, Charles Groves. Ruth was a workaholic; she composed

Frank Lloyd Wright
By Robert McCoy
Frank Lloyd Wright, (1867-1959) generally regarded as America's greatest architect, was born in Richland Center, Wisconsin, which became the setting for Taliesin East, Wright's home and architectural headquarters for many years. His mother, Anna Lloyd Jones, one of three sisters who were educated school teachers, had a dominating personality thus, determined that her son, Frank, would be an architect.
Sullivan had brought the skyscraper to a mature art form in Chicago, its birthplace. Wright quickly rose in that important office to become its manager and project director. Fired in 1893 and on his own, in 1895, Wright set up a studio in Oak Park where by 1900, he and the young architects in Chicago, had developed a coherent new style that began to be called, "Prairie School".
As Wright's career developed, a small group of prominent citizens in Mason City, Iowa was interested in building a new bank and hotel in the community. One of them, J.E.E. Markley had two daughters who were attending the Hillside School at Spring Green, Wisconsin that Wright designed in 1902. The school impressed Markely thus, he selected Wright as the architect for the new bank and hotel in Mason City.
