Anthony Syme is an independent luthier based out of Colorado Springs CO. He was born in Nevada and grew up in South Carolin, Florida, and Colorado. As pertaining to music, he started learning the saxophone at the age of 9. At the age of 12, Anthony and a group of five friends established dreams of becoming a great band in the not too distant future after all of their parents had retired from the military and came back together again. The one inhibiting factor is that none of them played any pop-rock instruments. It was therefore established by the group that each person should learn their instrument and then everything would be in place for establishing the band.
As fate had it, the parents of the group didn't establish the rock star dream as one of their objectives in life, so all the parents went their own way and the boys never came together again. Since Anthony didn't know fate, he worked fervently from the age of 12 on up, on his mission objectives of playing the bass guitar.
He learned the bass quite fervently and started playing the guitar which lead into songwriting. At the ripe age of 12 then Anthony wrote his first few songs, (however sad they were). He also established a goal to make a bass guitar, (for utterly no reason in particular).

A concern for local residents
A fast-moving train reaches the railroad crossing on Sweetwater Road just north of Highway 118. Area residents are concerned about the potential for problems should a train ever have a mishap at the crossing, since it is the only road in and out of Iyanbito.

Iyanbito Road could get facelift
Bill Donovan
Staff Writer "The roads here are really, really bad, especially when it gets muddy," said William Charleston, a resident of this small Navajo community just east of Gallup who has spent a great deal of his time in the past decade complaining about road conditions in his chapter. While bad roads are the norm in many chapters on or near the Navajo Reservation, even county officials admit that Iyanbito may have some of the worst roads in the county, with the plight of local drivers made even worst by the fact that there is only one road in and out of the chapter.

Children of Uganda
At first glance, it's just another show filled with the dance and drumming of central Africa. But look a little deeper and you'll discover that Children of Uganda, at Ann Arbor's Power Center on Friday and Saturday, is far more significant. Yes, it is a show. But it's also a fund-raising arm of the Uganda Children's Charity Foundation, an organization that supports Ugandan orphanages. Instead of asking the world to help children in a nation few westerners could find on a map, the foundation opted to give the once-powerless children a voice. Today, the 20-person company of young people they range in age from 6 to 17 has become the most effective ambassador for hundreds of children in the two orphanages the foundation supports. "They give a new face to the authentic songs and dances of our home," says director Frank Katoola. "For the young people, it is very challenging. But doing this gives them more schools and more opportunities. And more hope." Shows are at 7 p.m. Friday and 8 p.m. Saturday at the Power Center, 121 Fletcher, Ann Arbor. Tickets are $16-$32 by calling 734-764-2538 or, outside the 734 area code and within Michigan, 800-221-1229, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays, or online at

President’s Cabinet Focuses On
R.S.V.P. Model Implementation
The January 29 meeting of the President’s Cabinet focused on the R.S.V.P. (Responsive Solutions Through Vigorous Planning) Implementation Model for the strategic plan.  President Dr. Michael B. McCall recently introduced the model during a PowerPoint presentation in Lexington on January 24. About 350 employees from across the system who recently were named members of R.S.V.P. Peer Teams attended the Lexington presentation, and other KCTCS employees will soon have the opportunity to see an adaptation of the program.  The cabinet has reviewed an abbreviated version of Dr. McCall’s PowerPoint presentation that the colleges can use when informing all faculty and staff about the R.S.V.P. Implementation Model. It was discussed at the Cabinet meeting that Cabinet liaisons should begin scheduling Peer Team meetings as soon as possible in order to identify those who will represent the team on a Strategic Priority Team (SPT).  Vice President Dr. Candace Gosnell

Published: 09.09.2004 Classical scene tuning up for fall By Cathalena E. Burch ARIZONA DAILY STAR Tucson classical music fans have another reason to celebrate the arrival of fall: a new chamber ensemble. Daystar Chamber Players - organized by Harvey Wolfe, retiring this week as principal cellist with the Cleveland Orchestra - includes members of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra (violinists Anna Gendler and Michael Grossman, violist Melissa Hamilton, flutist Sandy Schwoebel and pianist Alexander Tentser) and Wolfe. The professional musicians have several programs lined up for their first full-fledged season. The group performed several concerts in the past year, but this will be its first all-out schedule of performances. That's in large part because Wolfe, a 37-year veteran of the Cleveland Orchestra, is planning to live here full time beginning this month.
