DAVID SYME is one of the great pianists of our time. He thrills audiences the world over with the sheer excitement and beauty of his playing, whether in a concert hall with full symphony orchestra or with his own band in a convention center. He devours the music and captivates his listeners as he effortlessly glides from one musical style to another. This classically-trained master has represented the U.S. in international piano competitions, has played at Chopin's birthplace, and has appeared at Lincoln Center and Kennedy Center; he has played at major concert halls in 13 European countries, Canada and Mexico; but above and beyond his virtuosity he offers an engaging personality, a sharp wit and an entertaining show that is unique in its versatility. You may have heard about DAVID SYME from one of his hundreds of radio appearances playing live listener requests on your local or network station; or you may have seen him playing on your ARTS or PBS television station playing with the Mexico City Symphony; or heard one of his 18 classical CD's with such orchestras as The Royal Philharmonic or Vienna Symphony. Whatever your introduction to DAVID, his greatest impact has come from his collection of 13 CD's available herein, and we invite you to sample them and to add them to your own library. We wish you many hours of listening enjoyment!

Syme takes stage in Northport
'Play it Again' show is set for Saturday night
By Record-Eagle staff writer TRAVERSE CITY - Concert pianist David Syme is classically trained, but he hasn't forgotten his pop sensibilities. Syme, who has played at Kennedy Center and with the London Philharmonia, will play a concert on Saturday at the Northport Community Arts Center. The concert, titled "Play it Again Syme" after his first CD, promises to be an eclectic mix of pop and classics, said the pianist, who lives in West Bloomfield. "That's sort of a niche that I've established in community concert life," he said. He also does that on some of his CDs. While some recordings - like some of his concerts - are strictly classical, others include such varied fare as "Don't Cry for Me Argentina," "My Way" and Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody."

'Human jukebox' Syme rocks the classics
Web-posted Mar 6, 2005
By JENA PASSUT Of The Daily Oakland Press "He perches on the piano bench like an ungainly swallow, but the sounds that emerge from the Steinway are more beautiful than any a nightingale could make." The description in the Prague Post of his tour with the Czech National Symphony was apt, though world-renowned pianist David Syme says most of that characterization's for the birds. "At my best I feel most like a lion, powerful and commanding," the 6-foot-2-inch musician says. Either way, the music is undeniable. Sitting at his Steinway Grand in his West Bloomfield Township home, his eyes closed, his fingers passing gracefully and then forcefully over the keys, Syme plays a mini concert right there in his lavishly decorated living room. First, he plays Chopin, next, a complicated looking "Rootbeer Rag" by Billy Joel. "I'm more like a rock 'n' roller playing classical music," he huffs. Syme, a 56-year-old Juilliard-trained pianist who performs extensively overseas, will share his knowledge in a lecture series at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield starting Tuesday.
