Keep your pianos regulated
I just want to share the story of how I recently got my beautiful piano regulated and how it has improved my life significantly. Well, recently, I began my teaching career, and for the first time in my life was able save up some money to give the piano a nice overhaul. I have some pretty advanced students with nice instruments who were starting to complain that they could barely play in my studio compared to on their pianos. So, on one of their recommendations (thanks Chris Quinn!), I had a technician by the name of Mike Miccio come by to give me an evaluation and estimate. Keep your pianos regulated! Craig Sheppard Interview
By Rob Barnett, MW - Classical Music Web
    August 30, 2002
Barnett: Craig, can you tell me something about your family background?
Sheppard: My family have been in the United States for the most part for eight to ten generations. I am basically of Scots and English lineage, with some Irish, German, and Polish blood as well. My father died recently at the age of 87, my mother is 85. I will turn 57 at the end of November [update October, 2004]. I have two brothers, one older, one younger. Both are businessmen.
What form did your early schooling take?
I did ‘normal’ schooling (in the USA, public schools) through secondary school, whereupon I went to the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia for three years and then on to the Juilliard School in New York for another three, earning both Bachelors of Science and Masters of Music at the latter institution.
    Who were your music teachers?
At the Curtis, my teacher was Eleanor Sokoloff (now 90 years old) [update October, 2004]. At Juilliard, it was Sascha Gorodnitzki. I worked privately with Rudolf Serkin when I was at Marlboro. After my Juilliard years I worked with Ilona Kabos in both London and New York and Sir Clifford Curzon in London. Are there any generic differences between music teaching in the USA and in the UK or Europe. If so what are they and what do you put these differences down to?

    EJ at The Hi-Tone
I totally forgot to post about EJ 's show at the Hi-Tone a couple of weeks back. It was a really great show. Hopefully he'll be playing out a lot more often in the fall. He's been working on an album, I hear. I missed his show at Murphy's last week due to my self-imposed party hiatus, but Abby went and she even posted some film clips. Check it out. In other Memphis music news: Tim Regan , formerly of Snowglobe , has formed a new band. They're called The Pirates , er, I mean Raygun . Check 'em out. Here's a cute picture of Tim to hold you over until they get some music recorded or book some shows - whichever comes first.

    Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I'm totally bored with myself. But I figure, you come here because you're bored too. So, I posted my pictures from The Beale Street Music Festival. There are a lot of shots of Ben Kweller from when EJ interviewed him. I've been meaning to send EJ the shots and post the pics, so now I've accomplished both. Ok, I think I'm gonna go take a nap now.
