Piano Ensemble
The nationally-acclaimed KC Piano Ensemble is comprised of eight pianists who play keyboards that are capable of producing up to 600 different sounds. This allows the group to sound like a philharmonic orchestra, a jazz combo, or a "retro-rock" band. KC Piano Ensembles have performed at the National Piano Teachers Institute at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, the Texas Music Teachers' Convention in Corpus Christi, the Music Teacher's National Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah, the Henderson Women's Forum, and various "Red Hat Society" programs and conventions throughout the state. Mrs Siler has been invited to present an ensemble at the 2005 Music Teachers' National Convention in Seattle, Washington and the National Piano Pedagogy Conference in Chicago, Illinois.

Keyboard Orchestra The Red Hat Keyboard Supreme's are a group of eight talented musicians who perform on keyboards capable of producing up to 200 different sounds-ranging from orchestral instruments such as strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion to non-traditional sounds such as barking dogs, gunshots, thunder claps, and much more! The group began in 1998 when Sandra Siler, Head of Piano Instruction at Kilgore College, offered area piano teachers the opportunity to come together weekly to play piano ensemble music. Two of the current group members, Jo Denson and Patsy Cato, were among that pioneer group. Members have come and gone, but after several successful public performances, Siler had to begin a waiting list. When the group became members of the "Red Hat Society" they decided to call themselves "Supreme's" because like the Supreme Court-they are members for life! The group rehearses weekly for two hours and performs often.

Mrs. Jacqueline Owings Interviewer: Marsha Peart
Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Date: April 11, 2002 Edited by: Mrs. Owings and E. Schaaf Q: Please state your name. Owings: My name is Jacqueline Owings. I live in Baltimore, Maryland. Q: Owings: I was raised here. Q: Raised in Baltimore. You came here at the age of one or so. Owings: Less. Q: You had all your educational experience here in Baltimore. You stated also in the pre-interview that music has always been a part of your life. Could discuss what music was like for you at home while you were growing up? Owings: I guess it probably had more to do with going to church than anything else. My grandmother sang in her church choir, and so I would hear her choir, I would hear music at church. And then in the early days, without television and some of the other kinds of entertainment, a lot of churches gave concerts. Also at my church, a Methodist Church, we had what was called the Epworth League, which was an organization for young people. On Sunday afternoons there would be programs with discussions, poetry and music. Very often you might have singers from from Morgan State College Q: Owings: My grandmother raised me.

Caldwell Fine Arts presents the Cleveland International Competition Winner, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, in Jewett Auditorium on Tuesday, March 20, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Select-a-Seat, door, or call 459-3405. Adults are $10-12 and students $8-10.
Caldwell is one of two Idaho communities to book the 1999 Winner of the Cleveland Piano Competition. Antonio was so successful at his August performance at the Sandpoint Music Festival with the Spokane Symphony that he was immediately re-engaged.
The Cleveland Competition is very difficult. The Robert Casadesus Society and the Cleveland Institute of Music founded this competition in 1975 to honor the memory of the great French pianist, Robert Casadesus who had close ties with George Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra. A screening committee reviewed 220 audio tapes and documentation of pianists ages 19-32 from around the world. They invited 61 pianists to perform at the 1999 Cleveland International Competition.
Antonio Pompa-Baldi became the prize winner after four rounds of playing which took place August 8 to August 14. At the end of the first round, only 16 advanced. Every subsequent round reduced the candidates by half. Phillippe Bianconi, a Van Cliburn Silver Medalist, who performed here in 1986, was a winner of the Cleveland Competition in 1981. Other finalists among the many who have had successful careers have included Sergei Babayan, Benedetto Lupo, Neil Rutman, Edward Newman, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Angela Hewitt, John Owings and Per Tengstrand of Sweden, the 1997 winner.

Message from the Dean
The American Guild of Organists (AGO) is the national association serving the organ and choral music fields. First chartered in 1896 in New York City, the AGO now serves over 21,000 members with over 350 chapters in the United States.
The Spartanburg Chapter in South Carolina was chartered in 1954, the third oldest in the state. Chapter goals include sponsoring workshops in keyboard and choral music, giving student concerts, holding student competitions and awarding scholarship money.
A comprehensive chapter history (1954-2004) has been written and published by member Dr. John Bullard, emeritus professor at Wofford College, using chapter correspondence and primary source material in chapter scrapbooks from the 1950's to the present. (This chapter history was cited in the February 2005 edition of THE AMERICAN ORGANIST by President Frederick Swann as a model for other chapters to use in recording their own histories.) KOCH INTERNATIONAL CLASSICS KIC-CD-7528 BUY NOW AmazonUK AmazonUS Robert Casadesus is best known to moderately well-informed music lovers as a pianist whose performances of most of the Mozart piano concertos, from No. 17 upwards, were staples of the CBS LP catalogue. Sony, as the successor in title, have been less inclined to release them on CD although Sony France last year (2001) issued a bargain box of some of them. Allegretto and Allegro molto Chausson Hommage at first persuades you that it will be a soulful soliloquy (on the notes C H A U S S O N - it was written for the Chausson centenary), which in part it is but soon it throws off these widow's weeds and accelerates with passion through a tripartite scherzo. It was dedicated to Zino Francescatti as was the Second Sonata.

79. Steve Conn: Press
Bryan owings’ drums and Sonny Landreth’s slide guitar add to the mix; A tremendous organist, pianist and accordion soloist, music has been a vital part
http://www.steveconn.com/pressfulltext.html
"My heart aches so bad I shot myself in the foot to relieve the pain," mournful sad songs. First and foremost, though, Conn is a storyteller in the deepest Southern tradition. Much like the smell of apple pie baking reminds you of your mother’s cooking, Conn’s songs cue the memory of things seemingly lost, but not forgotten. "If I Were King," is Conn’s political, philosophical, "If I don’t say it soon, I’m gonna scream," answer to the narrow-mindedness in the current entertainment/political landscape. "Somebody Gotta Make a Move," is a groove pocket, slow burn, funky grind that rolls into Memphis like the midnight blues express. "All The King’s Horses," tells a story of modern heartbreak wrapped in medieval images. "Down on Rigolette," is a gothic tale of family skeletons and dire consequences. "Comfort Me," evokes a haunting, bluesy, heart-achy, been there before one too many times , feeling. "I’ve Got Your Dog," and "Polishing Chrome" are life lesson stories put to music, and "Beautiful," is the superbly recanted story about one woman’s dark struggle against her brutal relationship. All of Conn’s songs are well-crafted, intelligent and derived from a maturity and artistry that few writers attain. It is abundantly obvious that Conn is passionate about his craft. The backing musicians are some of Nashville’s finest: Kenny Vaughn (guitar), Dave Francis (bass), Bryan Owings (drums), and the lovely Carmella Ramsey (backing vocals). Longtime friend and guitar virtuoso Sonny Landreth adds his own style of soulful, burning slide guitar to round out the musical circle. Conn himself plays anything and everything with keys: Hammond B-3 organ, accordion, acoustic and a variety of electric pianos, Mini Moog, and melodica. What makes

More than additional hands to applaud, Brown hopes for new connections with musical neighbors in his adopted county. Introducing neighbors to unimagined aspects of one another is one of the things the Artists Showcase does best. photo courtesy of Calvert Artists Showcase
