The University
Keyboard students at the University of Evansville study with highly skilled teacher-performers in the context of a small, closely-knit liberal arts institution. The low student-faculty ratio and teaching emphasis of the university give all keyboard students the benefit of close personal contact with their teachers and each other.
Student Performances
The small size of the department-around 120 students-ensures that all students have ample opportunity to participate in master classes , weekly studio classes, weekly student recitals, a concerto competition and degree recitals. Keyboard students at UE also have the opportunity to accompany singers, instrumentalists and choirs and to participate in large and small ensembles, benefitting from frequent coachings by different faculty members. Students perform on two Bösendorfer concert grand pianos, four organs made by Holtkamp, Fisk, and Reuter and two harpsichords made by Dowd and Jones.
Visiting Artists
In addition to frequent faculty solo and chamber performances, the Department of Music hosts an organ series

Andrew S. Delfino
Like most of the really fine writers I have had the pleasure of teaching at UC Davis, Andy generously gives teachers (like me) more credit than they deserve. A gifted writer when he came into my class, Andy was willing to work with such focus and creativity that I thought all four pieces he wrote for my class worthy of publication.

The path to success had never been an easy one for Herr Naki. Aside from his teaching job, finding performances and competitions were difficult for someone without a conservatory education. One person told him that he could never play Chopin well since he was an Asian-American. Even at the competitions he got into, things did not always go well. One time during a competition in Leeds, England, he was interrupted three times while performing. This was after he barely made it to the competition after the shuttle got a flat tire.
His lessons were always creative, and at the very least fun. Every day we learned some new part of grammar, some vocabulary, and then played games to practice those, or practiced our speaking skills by writing and performing our own skits. Other times we each took turns teaching the class, with Herr Naki impersonating the student who was now in front of the class.

Family School Interests Links Music History Piano playing has been a major occupation in our family for about 10 years. It all started when we bought an old, used piano. Soon after, Garrett and I started piano lessons. I was almost 10, and Garrett was almost 11. The twins began that same fall, when they were almost 8. I can still remember our first recital. I have never been LESS nervous at a recital than at that one! Anyway, we still have that old piano and all of us except Garrett (he segued into electronics) are still going at it. Green Bay Angie and Abbie with the Yings - Abbie with Jon Nakamatsu - Angie with Jon Classical music is our greatest love. We all have our favorites Mom and Abbie love Bach, Angie goes for anything romantic, and I love Beethoven. We have been to lots of concerts in Green Bay. The Weidner Center, located on the campus of UWGB, often hosts distinguished artists. Besides the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra, we have seen Anton Nel(pianist), Chi Yun(violinist), Stephanie Chase(violinist), Jon Nakamatsu(pianist) and the Ying Quartet, and others. Texas In Texas, I have had many opportunities to hear great music. Not only does Baylor have top-notch performances, but also often hosts famous musicians. I was very excited to have the chance to see Christopher Parkening live! He is my favorite guitarist and I really like how he always gives his Christian testimony at his concerts. My piano professor for my first two years at Baylor, Dr. John Cozza, took me to many concerts at the Bass Hall in Ft. Worth, and the Myerson in Dallas. I have seen performances that I would never have thought I would be able to see Evgeny Kissin, Murray Perahia, Radu Lupu, three Van Cliburn Competition winners(all pianists), Joshua Bell(violinist), and Thomas Hampson(baritone). Not to mention actually seeing Van Cliburn himself at the concerts!

PIANIST PERFORMS CONCERTO BY BEETHOVEN RIVAL
By Richard Scheinin
Mercury News

Pianist Jon Nakamatsu is always engaged with the music at hand and there was a lot of music at hand Sunday at San Jose's Le Petit Trianon, where he performed not one but two concertos. And there was this other home-field advantage: Nakamatsu has played Trianon's nine-foot Steinway D concert grand piano enough times to know that it can swamp the Trianon with sound. It didn't Sunday; even on the Chopin, Nakamatsu retained all the work's virtuosity without overwhelming the proceedings. Of course, the main reason the music sounded so
