May 2005 Articles Public Radio Collaboration: "Think Global" American RadioWorks America Abroad: The U.S. and China-Bush's Next Test Worlds of Difference: Local Culture in a Global Age ... Transforming the Translator Public Radio Collaboration: "Think Global" Throughout the month of May, WFIU will devote special coverage to exploring how globalization affects you and your community, and how global change will shape the world that the next generation inherits. The coverage is part of Public Radio Collaboration 2005-an annual programming event wherein public radio stations around the country assemble programming on a single theme. The theme for this year's collaboration is "Think Global."
Whether we live in Bloomington or Bangkok, Terre Haute or Timbuktu, globalization is one of the most important trends of our time. Our lives are connected as they've never been before. What we wear, what we eat, how we work, how we communicate-almost everything we do is part of a spectacularly complex web of global interactions.

“I didn’t know he was a genius. Frankly,
I didn’t know what the hell he was.”
Page II of II ““We were poor,” she adds, “but there was no depression in our house. We didn’t know what we didn’t have. And we liked what we did have. I remember going to bed thinking, ‘Wow, I have new shoes,’ and jumping out of bed in the middle of the night to look at my new shoes. Now that I can have everything, I’ve lost that.”
Leah remembers a time when the family barely ate for several days. Finally, her father was able to earn ten dollars buying and selling old jewelry. “He came home with ten dollars and said, ‘We’re going on vacation.’ And we did. That’s faith.”
Life gave Leah another advantage. “I was different looking, but I never wanted to change. If I had a tiny pug nose maybe I wouldn’t have had to develop a personality. But, instead, I learned to play the piano. I was somebody. I loved my life, and I believed in me.”
Leah studied to become a concert pianist, but she gave up that ambition when she married Arnold Spielberg, an engineer, and moved with him from Ohio to Arizona.
