SCREENING AUDITIONS WILL BE HELD IN THE NETHERLANDS, RUSSIA, SWITZERLAND, AND THE UNITED STATES IN JANUARY AND FEBRUARY 2005
Dec 5, 2004
THE PIANISTS SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE COMPETITION WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON MARCH 1, 2005 FORT WORTH, TEXAS December 5, 2004From Malaysia to Moldova and Nigeria to New Zealand, 147 very talented young pianists from 34 countries are now preparing to audition for the opportunity to compete in the Twelfth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition taking place in May and June 2005 in Fort Worth, Texas. Culled from written applications received from 270 pianists worldwide, the 53 women and 94 men scheduled to audition were selected based on a set of rigorous criteria requiring prospective competitors to submit proof that they had performed several recent recital and orchestral appearances along with lists of works in their active repertoire, concert reviews, letters of recommendation from internationally established teachers and musicians, and other materials. Twelve of the pianists auditioning have been to Fort Worth before, including two who made the finals in 2001. Of the group selected to performing screening auditions, Foundation president Richard Rodzinski says, "there appear to be an unusually high number of pianists who, based on their past accomplishments and recommendations, stand an excellent chance of becoming a new Cliburn medalist."

How and when did Steve Weingart join the band in place of vitalij kuprij? Although he is a trained classic pianist, it’s new for him to work in the rock

Click here to read an English translation of the article The interview with Mark Boals for Ring Of Fire new album The Burrn! August issue 2004 Ring Of Fire, which is led by Mark Boals, completed their third album “Lapse Of Reality” and will release this new album on July 22nd after an interval of a half and one year. Right after making the last album “Dreamtower”, Steve Weigert replaced Vitalij Kuprij as their keyboardist. With this new keyboardist, you’ll hear the same classic, technical dynamic progressive metal as you heard on the last two albums, but having more jazz rock style tension than clear, lyrical melodies, the new album is close to the line of the last album….this new album was developed from the last album and goes further. And I would say that is the result from the drummer Virgil Donati who is also active in the fusion field became the main song writer as well as Tony MacAlpine. As far as the skills of the new keyboardist, he isn’t a flashy keyboard player, but it sounds that he has well enough technics and senses to play for this band. Well, let’s start to talk with Mark.

Tower Records Amazon.com Impulse Music Guitar Nine ... Lion Music George Bellas started playing guitar at the age of 7, on a Classical guitar his father had bought him. On the way home from getting the guitar, in the back seat of the car, George started plucking away. When he got home, he ran all around the neighborhood playing his new guitar. The next day at school, George checked out every single music book in the school library, went home, and began his quest to obtain an absolute understanding of every detail in music theory. George began practicing and studying really hard at first, to the point of which his fingers began bleeding. He would put band-aids on them and continue practicing. His influences include: J.S.Bach, L.V.Beethoven, Franz Liszt, Paganini, Debussey, Walter Piston, Ted Greene, Robin Trower, Montrose, Van Halen, Michael Schenker, Dream Theater, Magellan, Yngwie Malmsteen, Tony MacAlpine, Jason Becker...
George began performing live very early on, and gigged extensively with his bands: Union Jack, Destiny, FreeFall and Prodigy, while continually studying Music Theory, Harmony, Rhythm, Counterpoint and Form. George began teaching guitar in his early teens and opened a school of music called "Prodigy's School Of Music". During this time he continued to perform live with his bands and compose a seemingly endless amount of music. George had an attraction towards Classical counterpoint and odd rhythms very early on and are now a unique signature of his style.

The Fourth Legacy

Noise Records kamelot@kamelot.com http://www.kamelot.com 4 1/2 [GM 4 1/2, GS 4 1/4] KARMA TO BURN Karma to Burn MIA Records Karma to Burn hail from West Virginia and play instrumental hard rock influenced somewhat by metal and classic rock. The music is very riff-oriented, each riff milked for all its worth and then traded in for another riff. It's heavy, dense and somewhat concentrated and repetitious. Some of the riffs are very much aligned to modern rock, others to groove-orientated metal, and yet others to classic rock. The music is well executed, but lacks direction in my opinion. It's like hardrock stripped to its barest requirements and suffers heavily from a sense of having no purpose. I do think that the band has potential, but they need more originality, more aesthetic ideas and less reliance on repetitious riffing. I feel that they can achieve greater success if they would simply bring more of themselves (as composers and musicians) to the table. (JS) 2 3/4 [AO 4 1/4] KARMA TO BURN Wild Wonderful Purgatory MIA Records 4 1/2 [SV 3 3/4] KENZINER The Prophecies LMP/Leviathan Records Though neo-classical metal is a widely spread genre, only few musicians manage to really create outstanding, balanced compositions, which go beyond mere shredding. Jarno is one of them, with some excellent songwriting on this album and really impressive guitar virtuoso skills. The great songs however also alternate with some more commercial ones. The main thing that actually disappoints me with this band is the singer. Such great music would require an exceptional vox a la Russell Allen. Instead, Stephen Fredrick displays a monotonous, raspy voice in the mid-eighties glam hard rock style, which feels outdated, mechanical, lacking emotion, and eventually boring. (AS)

This duo is from the East Village in New York City, although the lead singer, Snowflake, is originally from Sweden. The group delivers upbeat pop-electronica in a way that is mysterious, sultry, and atmospheric. She play keyboards and guitar (favoring old Fender Strats!), and Mark Partridge handles guitars. I can't stop singing the melodies to myself. That's a good sign, even though I'm not much of a singer. I think you'll be humming along too! Guitarist George Bellas is one of the most respected and talked about guitar players around. He has some serious chops! Utilizing a very clean and very fast alternate and unique sweep picking technique, his music features a lot of odd meters, excellent production values and seriously smokin' playing. George has released a number of solo albums including 2003's aptly named "Venomous Fingers". He is also featured on Pianist's Vitalij Kuprij's album "Extreme Measures" and has been a member of various bands. In addition to playing, George also teaches guitar and sells his own guitar related software on his website. He is also a very nice guy! Neoclassical metal keyboard ace vitalij kuprij has a brand new The Ukrainianvitalij kuprij releases his new solo album Forward And Beyond on February
http://www.lionmusic.com/Reviews/reviewsVitalij.htm
Kuprij, Vitalij: Forward and Beyond
Neo-classical metal keyboard ace Vitalij Kuprij has a brand new instrumental CD, titled Forward and Beyond , containing eight jaw dropping numbers, plus 2 solo Kuprij bonus tracks if you get the European digi-pack version. The current Artension keyboard wizard, and former Ring of Fire member, brought along a host of virtuoso guitar shredders for this outing, so if you dig aggressive, classically inspired instrumental metal, this release will be right up your alley. The only real time you can relax and take a breath on Forward and Beyond is on the three solo Kuprij numbers "Idol Tribute", "Illusions", and "Phantom Fluries", where the keyboard maestro goes for a more introspective and majestic flair, while still showcasing his serious classical chops. While there is a fair amount of what some people will term "wankery" going on here, there is no denying the talent of Vitalij Kuprij and the guitarists that he has amassed for this recording. For an intense instrumental mix of classical, metal, and fusion, it doesn't get much better than this.
