Modern Mandolin Quartet The Modern Mandolin Quartet was formed in 1985 to give a new voice to that most American of musical instruments, the mandolin. Following the tradition of the mandolin orchestras and chamber groups from the early twentieth century, the MMQ uses the instruments of the mandolin family which correspond to the conventional string quartet (two mandolins, mandola, and mandocello). October 5 , 2002
Venice Baroque Orchestra - The Four Seasons The Venice Baroque Orchestra, featuring Giuliano Carmignola and Andrea Marcon take the period-instruments well beyond scholarship and technical considerations. This latest interpretation of the Four Seasons seeks to reflect what Vivaldi specifically depicts: the changing atmosphere in Venice through the cycle of the seasons. October 13, 2002
Stanislavsky Opera - La boheme Bohemian Paris is the setting for romance and betrayal in Puccini's beloved tale of youthful exuberance, poverty, selfless love, and heartbreak. The Stanislavsky Opera Company was established in 1918 as the opera studio of the famed Bolshoi Opera. Since that time, the company has had a long and distinguished history, having debuted many of the great Russian masterpieces.

artists from around the world, such as andreas klein who is a pianist fromGermany. Mr. klein played Beethoven on a grand piano in Huntington City Hall.
http://www.huntingtonsymphony.org/pages/didyouknow.htm
About an Orchestra An orchestra is made up of many instruments, and each has an individual sound. It is these sounds coming together that create the combination of instrument voices that we so often associate with classical music. There are several families of instruments within the orchestra. These are: strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. There are two symphonic seasons: Classical and Pops. Many orchestras play classical music during the winter months in a warm and sheltered indoor location, and move the instruments and music outdoors for a summer season. Not all symphonic composers are classical. Many young musicians compose music for orchestras today. These composers are called "contemporary." The leader of an orchestra is called the "conductor" or "maestro". The maestro uses his baton to direct the musicians. The maestro may say, "Now the violins play," or "Please play softly," without actually voicing a word. Once the musicians have practiced with the conductor, they almost magically understand the musical "sign language" of his baton. About Our Orchestra The Huntington Symphony has been around since the 1930's in various forms, sometimes disbanding for several years, and sometimes forming as the smaller "chamber" orchestra. Some of the musicians who were with the original Huntington Symphony Orchestra through the 1950s still play with us today.

‚“The players performed outstandingly...[the] well-rounded and impressive interpretation brought this rediscovery out in shining radiance.‚” ‚—K¶lner Rundschau In all the centuries since its creation in 1701, German composer Johann Meder‚Â’s St. Matthew Passion has never been performed in the United States. Now, this glorious Baroque composition receives its North American premiere, recreated by early music specialists Die K¶lner Akademie. More chamber-like than Bach‚Â’s Passion, this intriguing work is scored for five singers and six period instruments‚—a perfect choice for Memorial Church and its finely crafted Renaissance organ. June 17, 2005 Memories of Shirley
The arts and its practitioners lost a dear friend when Shirley Genther died at her Santa Fe home on April 6 at age 91. Her charming smile, quick-witted, but kind, sense of humor, and adventurous taste made her a familiar and welcome presence at hundreds of cultural events during her decades here.
The couple moved to Chicago in the early 1940s, and Shirley began years of commuting to the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where she was a dance accompanist, composer, and teacher. Her colleagues there included noted American composer Lee Hoiby, a one-time student.

SU HOME Pianist Patricia White Wroten Remembered in New Series (July 18, 2005) The professor of history taught from 1955 to 1984 and saw the campus and its programs grow exponentially. This semester Wroten, 86, helps expand those offerings even further with the endowment of a piano performance concert series in memory of his late wife, Patricia, a well-known piano teacher in the Salisbury area for more than two decades. The inaugural concert features renowned pianist Andreas Klein, who performs Wednesday, November 9, in the Great Hall of Holloway Hall, a building Wroten knows well. In 1955, with everything from dorm rooms to a dining hall to a basketball court, it served the campus in nearly every capacity. Wroten came to SU at the request of President Wilbur Devilbiss after having taught at Western Georgia College. A one-time SU student (in 1938) and graduate of the Maryland college system, he earned high recommendations from teachers in the Salisbury area. During their first exchange, Devilbiss told Wroten he hoped his reputation as an outstanding educator held true. During his first four years on campus, Wroten got to know one class particularly well. He served as advisor to the Class of 1959 from their freshman through senior years. In gratitude, more than four decades later, the class founded a scholarship in his name.
