The University
Keyboard students at the University of Evansville study with highly skilled teacher-performers in the context of a small, closely-knit liberal arts institution. The low student-faculty ratio and teaching emphasis of the university give all keyboard students the benefit of close personal contact with their teachers and each other.
Student Performances
The small size of the department-around 120 students-ensures that all students have ample opportunity to participate in master classes , weekly studio classes, weekly student recitals, a concerto competition and degree recitals. Keyboard students at UE also have the opportunity to accompany singers, instrumentalists and choirs and to participate in large and small ensembles, benefitting from frequent coachings by different faculty members. Students perform on two Bösendorfer concert grand pianos, four organs made by Holtkamp, Fisk, and Reuter and two harpsichords made by Dowd and Jones.
Visiting Artists
In addition to frequent faculty solo and chamber performances, the Department of Music hosts an organ series

Faculty member's bequest largest gift in UW-RF history
A former faculty member who found a home at UW-River Falls has bequeathed it the largest gift in the institution's history. The bequest of $600,000 was presented from the estate of Louis Wayne Tyler, an English department faculty member who taught 19 years before his retirement in 1980. The Janesville native died in September 1995. His friend and estate executor, former River Falls public schools English teacher Ben Hawkinson, said the estate may generate up to another $100,000 for the University after the estate is closed next summer.

Jan. 31, 1997 Pianist Klein to Appear March 5 Internationally acclaimed pianist Andreas Klein will perform March 5 at 8 p.m. in the Abbott Concert Hall of the Kleinpell Fine Arts building at UW-River Falls. Admission at the door will be $5. No advance tickets will be sold for this event. "This is an incredible opportunity to listen to a world-class musician. He has numerous talents and abilities and is very captivating," says Kaye Schendel, director of UW-RF's Wyman Performance series. Klein performs in recital and with orchestras from around the world. At a recent concert, Klein was asked to substitute for renowned colleague Claude Frank just 24 hours before a performance and play Beethoven's "Concerto No. 3." His performance earned him an invitation for the next season. Enthusiastic audiences and the media greeted Klein last fall as he toured Germany, his native country. His performances were often encored three times. A recital at the National Gallery of Art in Dresden, Germany, "An Evening with Beethoven," was broadcast live on the radio throughout Germany. Also last season, conductors and audiences admired Klein for performances with orchestras. He made his debut in Canada with the Sault Symphony, and in Florida, he performed the forgotten "Piano Concerto No. 2" by Mozart with the Gainesville Symphony.
