The Web site of the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago provides an extensive archival section which includes this page about the British Miss Marple mysteries which starred Joan Hickson as Agatha Christie's spinster sleuth. In this overview, the older production of Miss Marple is discussed as a 'heritage' production. Discover what this means, read about the performance of Joan Hickson as the strong female detective and find out how the show has retained its appeal today.

  • I have been cast in the role of Dave, a new-age bookstore clerk, in the Dan Seitz's independent drama Dual . My character befriends the lead character Claire (and more...), but may be getting himself into more trouble than he realizes. It's scheduled to begin production in late August.

  • I had a great time at the premiere party for #2 Pencil at the Paradise Rock Club! It's really rewarding as an actor to observe how the audience reacts emotionally at different parts of the film to things your character says and does. The screening was followed by a great performance by Comedy Connection regular Lamont Price, and the edgy rock songs of Cherry S/T . They performed "Save Me," the song I really like that plays during the title sequence of the film; I've found the tune popping into my head fairly often lately. It was kind of cool that the guitar of Cherry S/T congratulated me on a good job!

Keene Sentinel April 3, 2004 A home-schooled sixth-grader from Francestown wins the N.H. state geography bee By VICTORIA McGRANE for SentinelSource
He was the smallest competitor up there, his scuffed navy sneakers dangling inches about the stage floor. But in nine rounds, Matt J. Savage, 11, proved his slight frame contained continents worth of knowledge.
The home-schooled 6th-grader from Francestown captured the state title in the 16th National Geographic Bee, a program of the National Geographic Society, held Friday at Keene State College’s Mabel Brown Room. Top honor earned him a $100 check and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to compete against winners from around the country.
“I’m pretty surprised,” he said afterward. “I never knew I would be the best.”
Friday was Matt’s first time at the state bee. He represented the Monadnock Area Cooperative School in Hancock.
Eight rounds of questions winnowed the field from 10 finalists to two: Matt, who hadn’t missed a question yet, and Kaitlin E. Fink, a 5th-grader from Memorial School in Bedford, who’d missed just one question.
The two opponents squared off over three questions in the championship round. Both easily answered the first.

The UNC School of Music's Master of Music degree program was ranked #58 in the list of best graduate schools. A December 2, 2001 Denver Post headline declared: "Drama Kings – In Colorado, UNC offers best undergraduate theatre program." Post theatre critic John Moore assembled a panel of eight impartial observers to evaluate educational theatre programs throughout the state. Acknowledging that he'd created a "distraction" that's taken away from important business facing the state, House Speaker Thomas M. Finneran yesterday put off until 2005 his bid to grant pay raises to his lieutenants, effectively killing the measure for the foreseeable future.

Phoenix Sports Center project takes another step forward
GREEN BAY - Planning for an updated and expanded Phoenix Sports Center took a second major step forward today (June 18) with a key endorsement from the commission that oversees state facilities development. The State Building Commission voted unanimously to allow the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay to begin spending planning money on the project during the 2003-05 biennium. "We're delighted by this action," said UW-Green Bay Chancellor Bruce Shepard, speaking from Madison where the vote took place. "The merits of this project are such that, even in difficult economic times, we have been able now to gain support from both the executive and legislative branches of state government." Shepard's reference was to the fact that the Building Commission is chaired by Gov. Jim Doyle, and the Legislature's budget-writing Joint Finance Committee was already on record in support of the projected $30 million sports center plan. The Chancellor noted also that Sen. Robert Cowles, R-Green Bay, backed the project as a member of the Building Commission, and Cowles' local Democratic counterpart, Sen. Dave Hansen, attended today's commission meeting in support. The state would fund $7.5 million or one-fourth of the project. Half, or $15 million, would come from UW-Green Bay students who voted to dedicate additional fees over a 20-year period. The remaining $7.5 million would be sought via private fund-raising.
