Charles Brown Biography
Charles Brown
Artist: Charles Brown
Formed:
Members: Johnny Moore's Three Blazers Styles: Blues Urban Blues Piano Blues West Coast Blues How many blues artists remained at the absolute top of their game after more than a half-century of performing? One immediately leaps to mind: Charles Brown. His incredible piano skills and laid-back vocal delivery remained every bit as mesmerizing at the end of his life as they were way back in 1945, when his groundbreaking waxing of "Drifting Blues" with guitarist Johnny Moore's Three Blazers invented an entirely new blues genre for sophisticated postwar revelers: an ultra-mellow, jazz-inflected sound perfect for sipping a late-night libation in some hip after-hours joint. Brown's smooth trio format was tremendously influential to a host of high-profile disciples Ray Charles, Amos Milburn, and Floyd Dixon, for starters.
In his last years, Brown finally received at least a portion of the recognition he deserved for so long as a genuine rhythm and blues pioneer. But the suave, elegant Brown was by no means a relic, as anyone who witnessed his thundering boogie piano style will gladly attest; he returned in 1998 with So Goes Love before dying on January 21, 1999. ~ Bill Dahl, All Music Guide

The wealth of musical and artistic talent in the village has resulted in several village and school music and choral groups, and a village youth orchestra, with recorder, junior and senior groups within it. All give regular performances in the village, and in some cases, even internationally.

    Contents
    Introduction
Materials relating to the history of the Eastman School of Music reside in a variety of resources in Watanabe Special Collections and the general collections of Sibley Music Library. These include individual collections, organizational collections, sub-collections, files, and cataloged materials. The Eastman School of Music Archives, a part of Watanabe Special Collections, also possesses many departmental and administrative papers relating to the operations of the School, but these are restricted files and have not been included here. Individual and organization Sub-collections and files are somewhat loose designations and refer to materials accumulated within and by the Sibley Music Library and according to some organizing principle. These are often of a historical or documentary nature, but may also be relatively large sub-divisions of the cataloged collections. Files in particular are usually loose cumulations of individual miscellaneous items sharing some common characteristic or purpose. A bibliography of cataloged works relating to the history of the School has been appended. The items may be found in the collections of Sibley Library.

"My dad tried to play piano by ear, but I always knew when he was doing something wrong and what he was doing wrong, and he'd get mad when I'd try to correct him," Salomone says laughing. Despite his penchant for rolling Boogie-Woogie, as Salomone was maturing, the only bandmates he could find in Tama favored Country-Western sounds. "I tried to turn them on to Rock ‘n’ Roll, but I couldn’t do it," he says. So he moved to the closest city he could find - Des Moines, where the 60-year-old pianist/organist still makes his home today. BLUES ACCESS MAGAZINE
"All the cool daddies, zippers and setzers of the late 90's should have hired a singer with the talent of veteran Savannah, Georgia, jump-blues expert Haywood Gregory. Gregory, who replaced the Jumpers' vocally-ailing Eldridge Taylor two years ago,has great lung power, chooses his shrieking spots carefully and is funny and enthusiastic, battling with saxophonists Mike Hashim and Dan Alvero for control of the party song "Sinner." Perhaps owing to bandleader Jospeh Geary's presence on the drums, the Blues Jumpers build effectively from the rhythm section up, with the pianists and guitarists jumping in rather than piling on."
