AMERICAN FORK, UTAH Grammy-nominated pianist David Glen Hatch's new CD, Let Freedom Ring, is a collection of newly arranged patriotic songs that capture the American spirit. He will be showcasing these songs on a nationwide patriotic tour this fall. "September 11 left me with a desire to heal troubled hearts and to remind us all of the privileges of patriotism and the blessings of being an American. Music is my language to soothe the soul and make the heart soar," said David Glen Hatch, nationally acclaimed concert pianist. "With that in mind, I specifically chose songs that would show America's resilience through our tragedies and triumphs." Let Freedom Ring features traditional favorites, folk medleys, Broadway and pop hits, and original songs. "The tapestry of America is woven with the familiarity of Yankee Doodle and Battle Hymn of the Republic, the gentleness of the Shenandoah Valley and the exuberance of Dixieland, and with medleys that touch back to the Revolutionary and Civil Wars," said Hatch. "From a Distance became an anthem of the Gulf War and God Bless America defines us as Americans today."

Slover's 'Joyful Noise' in Pennsylvania LDS playwright Tim Slover's look at George Frederick Handel's "The Messiah" just finished a run at Lancaster's Fulton Opera House just as Slover's most recent work, "Hancock County" debut's at BYU. But a news story about the play in the Lancaster News shows how the play's shot at Broadway was killed by a bad review from a music critic, who saw the play in place of the New York Times' theater critic. 'The Singles Ward' Strong in Second Week "The Singles Ward," the cameo-filled comedy directed by Kurt Hale, was going strong in its second week, a box office take bringing its total to over $100,000 not bad for a movie that cost only about $425,000 to make. (This week's box office for "The Singles Ward" did not show up at the-numbers.com something that sometimes happes with independent films but sources inside the production company cite the total box office as over $100,000.) M E R I D I A N M A G A Z I N E Soothing Sabbath Sounds in New Instrumental Recordings
By Laurie Williams Sowby Happily for those looking for some Sabbath-day listening or anytime uplift, new instrumental albums by Latter-day Saint composers and artists abound. Here's a sampling; all are available through their web sites and wherever LDS music is sold.      Marshall McDonald presents his fifth full-length album in as many years with "Our Savior's Love," featuring 12 hymns and religious anthems with the pianist's personal touch. Variations in melody and rhythm help set McDonald's arrangements apart from the usual. Some, such as "O Divine Redeemer" and "The Spirit of God," are embellished by full orchestration by Robert Bowden, while others, such as "Jesus, the Very Thought of Thee," a lovely cello-piano duet with Steve Nelson, are beautiful in their simplicity. It's almost all instrumental, with the exception of a vocal duet, "How Great Thou Art." While well done by McDonald and high soprano Jennifer White, the vocal seems a bit out of place here. Temecula's Trejo a standout with the piano and the soccer ball
By: ED WEHDE - Staff Writer Many people consider themselves lucky if they find one thing in life they have a passion for and excel at. Ty Trejo knows he's doubly fortunate. The Temecula Valley senior is adept at tickling the ivories and dribbling a soccer ball.
A standout on the Golden Bears soccer team, Trejo is also an accomplished pianist. "I'm really blessed that I have the ability to participate in both the arts and athletics," Trejo said. "They're two different worlds, two different adrenaline rushes." Trejo plays soccer and the piano with equal zest, but in 10 years, he'll more likely find himself in a concert hall than on a soccer field. The midfielder hopes to make a career as a pianist.
Like his older brothers before him, Trejo began taking piano lessons at the age of 9. And unlike his brothers, Trejo really enjoys playing the piano and has an innate skill for the instrument.
"Sometimes you see soccer players that are just awesome, and you can tell they belong on a soccer field," Trejo said. "Piano is like that with me. It's instinctive. I play with my heart."

    Cory Reese
LDS Music World presents the music of LDS artist Cory Reese
Referred to as his "musical autobiography", Cory's CD "Moment of Peace" is a chronicle of the young man's life. Personal moments such as the anticipation of the birth of his child, and the death of his father are played through the notes of his music. It is clear that Cory's personality is in the music. Each note is deliberate and intentional as he weaves a picture in the mind of the listener. About Cory Reese
Cory Reese is a piano player in the truest sense of the art. At the age of eighteen he heard Cristofori's Dream by David Lanz and was touched by the music of the piano. He quickly sat at the family piano, determined to teach himself how to play. Without a lesson, and after countless hours, he was soon able to master the song that inspired him to play the piano. Five years later, he entered Spiral Studios to record Moment of Peace, original solo piano music.
