It's all we've ever dreamed of: Enjoying a catered dinner with several of our favorite fiction authors participating in a murder mystery. It's all fun and games until one of the authors ends up dead. And now everyone's a suspect. This is the premise for a murder-mystery dinner that will be hosted Friday by authors published by Covenant Communications. More... Local musician David Glen Hatch keyed up after Ukranian tour
    Published in: www.harktheherald.com (September 2004)
At age 3, when most kids were banging pots and pans, David Glen Hatch heard a song on the radio and climbed up to the piano to plunk it out. Thus began the career of the Grammy Award-nominated Orem musician, who has released 20 albums and toured extensively throughout the world. His next album, "The Very Best of David Glen Hatch," is being released this month. Hatch recently returned from a two-week tour of the Ukraine, where conductor Vladimir Sirenko asked him to play with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine as a guest performer.

    Our legacy of freedom
    By Pianist David Glen Hatch
BYU-Hawaii Devotional, February 3, 2005 Aloha! It's a pleasure to be with all of you this morning here in beautiful Hawaii on this campus whose history is an inspiration. Not only are you a magnificent sight but, the love and warmth of the Polynesian people is always genuine and heartfelt. As I sought spiritual direction in the preparation of my message for you today, it became clear to me that I should speak about America's legacy of freedom as it relates to the gospel of Jesus Christ. When Columbus set foot on these shores, little did he realize the immensity of this discovery? To be sure, there was little to be proud of at the time. The vast land before him with its gaunt dense forests and quaint habitation, left little to the imagination, aside from proving his own theory that the world was round. For years Columbus knew that the Spirit of God had been working on him to make the voyage! "Our Lord," said Columbus, "unlocked my mind, sent me upon the sea, and gave me fire for the deed. Those who heard of my enterprise called it foolish, mocked me, and laughed. But who can doubt but that the Holy Ghost inspired me?" (Jacob Wasserman, Don Quixote of the Seas, pp. 1920) However, it wasn't until 1620 that America began to have a purpose for its existence. That year the Pilgrims, who sought refuge from religious persecution and oppression in their own country, saw in this new land the priceless freedom of which they had dreamed and for which they had so desperately prayed.

By AMY WARD World-renowned pianist David Glen Hatch, recently named LDS Instrumentalist of the Year, will perform a special Christmas benefit concert Friday and Saturday in the Provo Tabernacle. All proceeds of "Christmas with David Glen Hatch" will be donated to "Project Read," an adult literacy program in Utah County. Hatch, a distinguished pianist, arranger, instructor and recording artist, will perform traditional Christmas music as well as some of his arrangements from his three volume CD series, "My Romantic Favorites." Joining Hatch will be the Valley Chamber Orchestra, a group of professional musicians. Marden Pond, musical director of the Nachtmusik Orchestra, will conduct the orchestra during the Christmas numbers. Pond wrote all of the orchestral arrangements for Hatch's Christmas numbers and recently released a recording of his own music, played by members of the Slovak Radio Orchestra.

Utah pianist invited to play at Ukrainian palace
NewsNet Staff Writer - 22 Jun 2004 E-mail or Print this story By VICTORIA BRADLEY Not too long ago, David Glen Hatch was playing piano recitals in Madsen Recital Hall here at BYU. This July, the BYU graduate has been invited to play at the Mariinsky Palace in Ukraine. Hatch received the invitation from Vladimir Sirenko, conductor of the world-renowned National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. The startling phone call from Sirenko came after the conductor learned of Hatch's plans for a Ukrainian tour this summer. He quickly asked Hatch to perform July 11 as the only American playing among Ukraine's best musicians. "I was surprised and absolutely overwhelmed to think that Vladimir Sirenko went out of his way to invite me to perform on such a prestigious program," Hatch said in a press release.

"The "Twelve Variations" lasts only 10 minutes, but in that 10 minutes, Hatch demonstrates that he can play not only loud, finger-busting music, but more importantly, he can play gentle, meditative music with poetic sensitivity" The (McKeesport) Daily News, Pennsylvania "Hatch plays beautifully with such an emphasis on dynamics the listener can get lost in the shades of color and feeling he paints with masterful finger strokes. The stillness he achieves in the last movement of 'Holiday Diary' is nothing short of genius." The Birmingham News, Alabama "Hatch is a pianist of finished technique and refined musicianship."
