Even thinking back over the tremendous artists who have appeared on Saint Paul Sunday over the years, it's hard to come up with a partner who's more fun to make radio with than Leif Ove Andsnes, who brings a rare combination of high intelligence, lovely sense of humor, wisdom far beyond what you might expect in such a young artist and a fabulous willingness to dive into the radio experience. For Leif Ove, this radio program is not simply a performance, but a conversation, an exposition, an exchange of ideas. He offers his own experience of learning and performing the music, adds depth to whatever I might bring up and is only to happy to play a phrase at the piano to make what we've been talking about more clear. Further, I ought to mention that Leif Ove is also one of the best pianists on the planet.

The University
Keyboard students at the University of Evansville study with highly skilled teacher-performers in the context of a small, closely-knit liberal arts institution. The low student-faculty ratio and teaching emphasis of the university give all keyboard students the benefit of close personal contact with their teachers and each other.
Student Performances
The small size of the department-around 120 students-ensures that all students have ample opportunity to participate in master classes , weekly studio classes, weekly student recitals, a concerto competition and degree recitals. Keyboard students at UE also have the opportunity to accompany singers, instrumentalists and choirs and to participate in large and small ensembles, benefitting from frequent coachings by different faculty members. Students perform on two Bösendorfer concert grand pianos, four organs made by Holtkamp, Fisk, and Reuter and two harpsichords made by Dowd and Jones.
Visiting Artists
In addition to frequent faculty solo and chamber performances, the Department of Music hosts an organ series

Main Essential Library Resources Composer Bios FLOYD COLLINS
Music and Lyrics by Adam Guettel, Book by Tina Landau
Prince Music Theater, Philadelphia
April 2-17, 1999 by Deborah Kravetz This reprise of the American Music Theater Festival’s 1995 Obie-award winning production opens with the cast silhouetted against a sunrise scrim, a technique that is used throughout to demarcate scenes. The tone is bluegrass twang with guitar and harmonica; the singing is country colloquial; the text is free verse that sometimes falls into those annoying rhyming couplets so characteristic of 1980’s musicals. OK, what is it? Too talky and not enough music to be a musical, it’s almost crying out to become an opera—singing through the dialog might dignify the material that Guettel has already composed as long meandering phrases in conversational rhythm. The story is simple: Floyd gets trapped in an underground cave with visions of creating a spectacular tourist attraction in rural Kentucky of 1925. When he can’t get out, he philosophizes and hallucinates. Friends and family attempt to help, and philosophize, and the rescue crew and media create a carnival atmosphere, and philosophize. The music is not memorable; what remains as memorable is the visual: The Riddle Song of Floyd’s and his brother’s energetic reminiscences, and the reporters’ Is That Remarkable , for its dance, its sudden close, three-part harmony and ragtime rhythm (but not a melody in sight), and satiric lyrics about newspapers and reporting. Get Comfortable is a hard blues number with a rhythmic driving bass that takes place during a rainstorm (really, on stage). The only motif that stayed with me was Floyd’s echoing yo-do-di-oh-do yodel, which is perilously close to the vamp of New York, New York.

Dripping Water Tea Catches Heart of Beijingers
Translated by Luke Zhou
Source: Beijing Youth News May 2, 2002
Mother and son both want to donate their piano.
Yesterday, our report on Dripping Water Elementary's sale of tea to pay for tuition intrigued many Beijingers. Many moving scenes of compassion and kindness were witnessed at the Temple of Earth, where the tea was being sold.
An Elderly Couple Anonymously Donates Books
At around 11 AM yesterday, a retired couple visited the tea stand but left quickly. 15 minutes later, they returned carrying three stacks of books and donated them to the Dripping Water Elementary. They came back again and this time, they were hauling three sets of "The Four Classics". Their only words were, "We hope that you will study hard and read as much as you can." When reporters asked for their names, they left rapidly covering their faces so no photographs could be taken.
A Three Year Old Girl Buys 120 Worth of Tea
"Brother, here's money, I'll buy tea!" Yesterday afternoon, a three year old girl clutching a twenty-dollar bill uttered these words to Chen Huijie, who was selling tea. As small as she was, she raised the twenty over her head and thanked Chen. When reporters asked her why she bought so much tea, she pointed out her grandma and said that it was Granny's order. After a few minutes, the same girl was clutching another 100-dollar bill. "Brother, may I have more tea please."
