Serving the Lord for 127 Years"
On July 31, 1851, a group of people, of the Baptist faith, found themselves in this area not far from the site of the present church building, without a Baptist church, close enough for them to attend. This group of people decided to form the Bethlehem Baptist Church. They accepted the faith of the Red River Baptist Association at the same time. The pastor Elder A. Harris, William Daniels and James McCollock formed the presbytery to organize the Church. After drawing up the Constitution, Articles of Faith, and Rules of Decorum these people began having services. Church services were held one weekend a month on Saturday and Sunday. The pastors were elected yearly. In 1853, the first two years' records were accidentally destroyed by fire. Fortunately someone had a copy of the charter members names and the constitution, Articles of Faith, and Rules of Decorum. The list of charter members included several servants probably slaves. In those days, the blacks didn't have churches of their own. They attended with their masters and sat in a certain section of the church, sometimes a balcony or a back row.

Memphis honored the 54-year-old rhythm and blues singer Sunday by renaming a stretch of Hale Road to Rev. Al Green Road. Hundreds of family, friends, fans and city officials were on hand for the dedication at Green's Full Gospel Tabernacle Church. Green, 54, has been pastor of the church since 1976.

Please enter your condolences:
From: Message: Date: Denis Prosenc, Germany He was my big idol. Thanks for inspiration, thanks for all these great walking lines, solos and this big warm sound! Ciao Ray. Joshua Bellenir I would like to offer my sympathy to the family and loved ones of Mr. Brown. Outside of his career and his passion for music, I know that he was indeed a great man, and loved his family dearly. This is a time not to mourn a loss, but to celebrate his life and what he accomplished. My hat goes off to you, Ray. We will always love and miss you. . . . Dale Withers My heart is broken...Ray was one of the jazz giants, a true icon of the bass, of jazz, of music, who is now playing in the celestial choir. I know the rest were waiting to welcome him home. Ray, you're still the best we ever knew, as a man and as a musician. We'll miss you more than you'll ever know.

A Red-Hot Weekend
by Tony Lombardi and Jim Primock
The spectacular opening night of this weekend set the pace for the best festival ever brought to Colorado. The big sky was clear and temperatures in the 70s made it a perfect night to be outdoors. The idea to have a 3-day event was a huge risk, given the chance of rain. But the rain was not to be. Everything lined up to make a sure-fire splash for the entire weekend. The preparation and coordination were executed with success by the promoters and volunteers. The performers played intensely, some playing the best sets that I have seen them do. And there was no shortage of Blues stars being in town for this event.
