www.tanyabannister.com Concerto in E-flat for Two Pianos, K. 365 New Works/CAG at the Thalia Deseret Morning News Ms. Bannister was recently awarded the prestigious Wigmore award from the Royal Academy of Music and is also a winner of the Woolsey Hall Competition at Yale. A highlight of the numerous competitions she won earlier in her career is the Asian Kawai Piano Competition, which brought her significant exposure on radio and television throughout Southeast Asia. An avid chamber musician, Ms. Bannister formed a piano trio at Yale called Trio Volante, which was awarded the Weill Hall Debut Prize at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival in 1999. She has performed with members of the Vermeer String Quartet, Jesse Levine and Michel Lethiec, and she also worked with members of the Tokyo Quartet. Born in 1977 in Hong Kong, Tanya Bannister began her piano studies at the age of five, and her early teachers included Gabriel Kwok at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts and Sequeira Costa in the US. Ms. Bannister received her undergraduate degree from the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she studied with Christopher Elton and Hamish Milne, and while in Europe, she also worked with Karl-Heinz Kammerling at the Mozarteum Salzburg and with Franco Scala at the prestigious Accademia Pianistica in Imola, Italy. Most recently she received her Master of Music degree from Yale University, where she studied with Claude Frank.

[72:19] full-price by David Tan Nowadays, young pianists find opportunity in gaining recognition for their talent a great deal more easily than say 20 years ago simply because of the plethora of piano competitions that exist. Even moderate talents would have sufficient merit for the fullest efforts at nurturing it. Despite this, Asians, for some inexplicable reason, are still under-represented in the international concert circuits. In fact, the number that are of international renown can be counted with one's fingers. We have Fou Tsong, Mitsuko Uchida, Eduardo Halim, Frederic Chiu and Melvyn Tan… the list doesn't go on very much longer. So it is hardly surprsing that our curiosity is aroused when we find a new Asian face breaking in to the scene.

The Bard Center presents an afternoon of romantic chamber music with cellist Robert Martin, violinist Erica Kiesewetter, and pianist Melvin Chen. on Sunday, November 10. The program, open to the public without charge, will begin at 3:00 p.m. in Olin Hall.
"Chamber music is meant to be played with friends and for friends," says Robert Martin, vice president for academic affairs and dean of graduate studies at Bard. "I so look forward to making music with Erica and Melvin, and the three of us are delighted to be offering this program to our many friends in the Bard community." The program will feature performances of Rachmaninov's Sonata in G Minor for Cello and Piano, Opus 19; Brahms's Sonata No. 3 in D Minor for Violin and Piano, Opus 108; and Dvorák's Trio in F Minor for Piano, Violin and Cello, Opus 65.
