Contemporaries and Beyond Part 1
The original posting on these Cadenzas by other composers for Mozart Piano Concertos was posted about 2 years ago, but has been added to since. Originally I had thought I would make a quick posting on 2 or 3 composers who also wrote cadenzas for Mozart Piano Concertos shortly after his death and post it. What happened was I found more and more material and the posting began to grow to a point where I didn't know where to stop.
But what started as a quick posting turned into a labor of love. For many of my postings I have most, if not all, the materials I need in my house. It is a matter of gathering my sources and putting something together. This posting took me into regions of composers I have very little (or no) knowledge of. I spent many hours at libraries going from book to book, as an article or footnote in an article would take me in another direction. I could have went further in time, but decided I better stop around 1891100 years after Mozart's death.
The point to this preface is two fold. First is a warning the posting is a bit long (and split into two postings), so you might not want to read it in one sitting. Perhaps pick and choose composers you are in the mood for. I don't want anyone falling asleep and hitting their head on the keyboard.

He wrote some six hundred romantic songs as well as many symphonies sonatas , some operas and many other works. Public appreciation of his work during his lifetime for a long time was thought to be limited, but when he died at the age of 31 over 100 of his compositions had already appeared in print. He was never able to secure adequate permanent employment and for most of his life was supported by friends or employed by his father.
