Dana Brown Piano Dana Brown is originally from Brimfield, Ohio and brings a wide variety of professional experiences to the stage. He studied piano at Kent State University and received a Master's Degree in Piano Performance in 1986. His primary teachers were Jerry Davidson and Margaret Baxtresser. In the 1980's, Brown performed as an accompanist throughout Ohio and was a member of the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra. In the 1990's, his experiences included appearances with the Canton Symphony Orchestra as an orchestral keyboardist that included performances on piano, celeste, harpsichord, and synthesizer. His appearances as an accompanist included recitals throughout the United States. Currently, Mr. Brown is on the faculty of the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music at Kent State. As an administrator, he serves as the Coordinator of Undergraduate Studies and works with the organization of auditions, scholarships, and academic advising. He also teaches piano, coordinates the class piano program, and works as a staff accompanist.

This event is the audition process for entrance into conservatories and the music departments of colleges and universities. Literally thousands of young musicians who have been practicing their instruments since grade school travel many miles for the opportunity to play for the teachers of these institutions of higher education. To the Parents To the Teachers I must also take this opportunity to thank the scores of teachers all over the country, and the world, for that matter, who give so much of themselves to preparing a student for this important event. You are the ones who literally show the young players how to put the flute together, how to make their first sounds, and nurture their love of music. You then guide them to the point where they are able to perform standard repertoire for professional flutists all across the country. Those of us who teach at the university level have the very serious responsibility of bringing your students into the professional world and into their own future. We will all do our best to carry on the wonderful work all of you have done in bringing these players to us. To the Students I was so delighted to meet each and every one of you who played for me this year, as well as the hundreds who have played for me in the past.
