These girls, twelve- and seventeen-years old, entered the respective institutions in 1871 after the father and Aletta had made successful requests. De in het patio opgerichte "Orpheusschulp" werd daarbij ook ingewijd, bij welke gelegenheid het Curaçaos Philharmonisch Orkest enige nummers ten beste gaf. Jammer, dat deze schulp niet geheel voldoet. Anders is het een goede gelegenheid voor jeugd- en volksconcerten. Misschien, dat een of ander expert er verbetering voor weet. De luitenant-ter-zee, musicus en zanger A.P. Smitt kwam thans met een muziekavond op 14 Maart op de Marine basis Parera. Hieraan werkten, behalve de organisator zelf, Mevr. Broek-de Fremery en Dr.Ch. Engels, beiden piano, de heren P. de Visser en R. Boskaljon, viool, H. Sweers, altviool mede. Dit jaar hadden wij niet te klagen over het bezoek van buitenlandse kunstenaars. Eerst kwam het echtpaar Alexander Feinland, viool, en Elisabeth Feinland-Bos Jansen, violoncel, welke kunstenaars zich gespecialiseerd hebben in het duo-spel viool en violoncel. Voor hun eerste bezoek aan Curaçao hadden zij de medewerking ingeroepen van de amateur pianist in Suriname L.M. Meursinge. Het eerste concert vond plaats op 28 April in het Theater Brion met het Trio Sonate in D gr.t. van Leclair en het Trio No.5 in D gr.t. van Beethoven op het programma, waartussendoor Duetten van Albrechtsberger, Hoffmeister, Godron, Lapetnikoff, Schulhoff Marchand en Breval uitgevoerd werden.

november 2004 donderdag 4 november 2004, 20.15 uur jazz impuls dubbelconcert The Millennium Jazz Orchestra vrijkaarten niet geldig Vanavond pakken we groot uit met een 18-koppige big band: the Millennium Jazz Orchestra (TMJO). Het orkest begeleidde de afgelopen jaren tientallen vooral Amerikaanse topsolisten, als Lee Konitz, Bud Shank en Dick Oatts. De band werkt in workshops onder leiding van bandleiders van wereldformaat zoals Bill Holman en John Clayton. Na de pauze begeleidt TMJO vocaliste Fay Claassen. Fay bracht inmiddels drie cd’s uit (waarop zij te horen is met o.a. Toots Thielemans, Kenny Werner en Mike Stern), die met lovende recensies werden ontvangen. Haar debuut uit 2000 was goed voor een Edison nominatie. Vanavond brengt zij Specially Arranged for Fay – negen stukken, speciaal voor Fay gearrangeerd door Joan Reinders, orkestleider van TMJO. HOME MEDIA contact concertagenda reserveren pers Vanaf 2003 organiseren we gedurende de wintermaanden met enige regelmaat een middag (of avond) met optredens van vrienden van Herman: bekende en minder bekende artiesten. Muziek en cabaret, van voorstellingen die nog gemaakt moeten worden tot programma's die al helemaal af zijn. . Dat gebeurt op een prachtige locatie: de bovenzaal van Herberg de Gekroonde Leeuw in Arum. Deze 8 optredens zijn geweest, houdt voor de agenda deze site in de gaten: Zondagmiddag 20 februari 2005 komt de Engelse singer/songwriter Paul Millns naar Arum. Hij was er al eerder, 2 jaar geleden. Ondertussen heeft hij een prachtige nieuwe CD (When love comes calling) opgenomen, die bij de BBC werd uitgeroepen tot CD van de week. Ook verscheen een CD met ouder repertoire (Stories I could tell), opnieuw opgenomen voor wie geen pick up meer heeft. Paul Millns treedt maar zelden in Nederland op. Wie een reis naar een optreden van Paul in Duitsland of Engeland te ver vindt kan dus maar beter de kans grijpen hem op zondagmiddag 20 februari om 16.00 uur in Arum te zien en te horen. 'If there is any justice in the musical world, he would be filling the biggest halls in the land.'
