The Institute for Geophysical Research is composed of members who are engaged in geophysical research in three University departments: the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, the Department of Mathematical Sciences and the Department of Physics. The purpose of the Institute is to foster interaction and collaboration among individuals from these three departments who are involved in research in Earth Physics, to advance geophysical studies within the University, to assist in the dissemination of knowledge, to help train leaders in areas of importance for the future well-being of our environment, and to promote interaction between the University and the broader community. 187. Spacibm Configuration Notes
Welcome to spacibm! spacibm is our new departmental server that is replacing spacsun. The machine is a dualopteron (64-bit AMD 246) IBM.

Welcome to spacibm!
Recent Updates
8/05: spacibm has been upgraded to SuSE Enterprise Linux 9 SP2. Several application programs have also been upgraded. Please check below for any changes to the way things run. If you find that something is not working, please let me know.
System Overview
spacibm is a dual-opteron (64-bit AMD 246) IBM. There is on-site service from IBM within 4 hours 24x7, so downtimes should be minimized. spacibm is the departmental server for mail, web, xterminals, IDL etc. It also has up-to-date data analysis packages (Fortran, IDL, Matlab, Mathematica, HEAsoft, IRAF...), and office programs (OpenOffice, latex, GIMP...). The CPU cost is the same as the slave nodes on inferno, and is much lower than the head node on inferno. Please use spacibm in place of the head node on inferno for computationally intensive jobs: this will free up inferno and its hard drive for those jobs that really need it. spacibm runs SuSE Enterprise linux. This only has a few subtle differences from Red Hat. You can search for the location of commands using which or locate. Make sure that e.g. the path and lpath environments in .cshrc and aliases point to the correct program.
