    MAE : Welcome
The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) Department has a long and distinguished history in education and research. Our graduates include many talented individuals who now hold major leadership positions in industry, government and academia. Members of our faculty and staff are intellectual leaders in the research fields of Thermal Sciences, Fluid Mechanics, Dynamics and Controls, Applied Physics, and Material Science. MAE students, faculty and staff enjoy numerous interactions with other departments and programs both in the School of Engineering and Applied Science ( SEAS ), and in the Princeton University community at large. Among these interactions are strong ties to the Program in Applied and Computational Mathematics (

Home Programs People Opportunities The Graduate programs in academic science departments at the University of Southern California (USC) and elsewhere have stressed their Ph.D. programs, often to the exclusion of master's programs. The University of Southern California, with support from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation , has created three new professional master's degrees in the sciences designed to meet the demands of graduate students and employers. The se Professional Master's Degree programs are Physics for Business Applications Computational Biology , and Computational Linguistics . All these programs have the common feature of being interdisciplinary and are designed to provide graduates with a complementary set of skills For more information about Professional Master's Programs in the Sciences at USC, email Dr. Hans Bozler, Program Director at hbozler@usc.edu or Call (213) 740-1125. Professor Tracey Ho was just named to the - innovators under the age of 35 who's work is changing our world. Also among this year's listing of outstanding scientists and innovators are Caltech alumni Helen Blackwell, PhD '99; Narasimha Chari, BS '96; Rajit Manohar, BS '94, MS '95, PhD '99; and Adam Rasheed, MS '98, PhD '01. Congratulations to all! David Rutledge
The Henry Luce Foundation has awarded $277,000 to the Caltech to fund two new postdoctoral fellowships for two years. The Clare Boothe Luce Fellowships will be awarded to two women, one in the Division of Engineering and Applied Science, and the other in the Division of Physics, Mathematics and Astronomy. The Clare Boothe Luce Program stands alone as the single most significant source of private support for women in science, engineering and mathematics.
Professor James Beck was recently honored by the International Association for Structural Safety and Reliability with with a senior research prize in computational stochastic mechanics. He was recognized for recently developed numerical methods to compute uncertainties and reliabilities of linear and nonlinear systems of large dimensions. In particular, Beck's subset simulation technique is a significant breakthrough that makes him "a pioneer in the implementation of the methods of computational stochastic mechanics in engineering applications." He received the award at ICOSSAR 05. News link for more EAS Division Chair David Rutledge For a complete list of Division Officers and Staff names with contact information

About IGERT
Four Program Areas

The Nonlinear Systems Program highlights four areas in which groups of faculty have organized interdisciplinary research training groups (IRTG) to mentor research projects in a coordinated fashion.
All participants in the Nonlinear Systems Program are working towards their Ph.D. degree in a Cornell graduate field. The program requires that IGERT fellows complete a curriculum of an integrated course, summer internship, weekly seminars, and a colloquium series. The second year culminates in a research project. IGERT People
What do a physicist, a biologist, a mathematician, a sociologist, a neuroscientist, a cognitive scientist and an educator have in common? They are all IGERT Faculty, Associates and Fellows. About Cornell
Cornell University was founded In 1865 by Ezra Cornell and Andrew Dickson White. It opened October 7, 1868. Morrill Hall was the first building constructed on the main Ithaca campus, which today includes more than 260 major buildings on 745 acres. Cornell is a private endowed university and the federal land-grant institution of New York State. It is a member of the Ivy League and a partner of the State University of New York. There are fourteen colleges and schools, seven undergraduate units and four graduate and professional units in Ithaca, two medical graduate and professional units in New York City, and one in Qatar.
