Who We Are
A New Vision Anything about different treatment options For the last few years a new vision of woman has been unfolding - the evolving dream of Dr. Dominic Pedulla, the founding physician of The Edith Stein Foundation (ESF). Asked in 1994 to give a talk on heart disease for women, his preparatory research unexpectedly led to a foundational insight about women's health. Inspired by the deep psychological intuitions of the great feminist transcultural heroine and Saint, Edith Stein, Dr. Pedulla for the first time began to suspect contraception as the most important and overlooked factor in a host of medical and social conditions afflicting the modern woman.
Contraception and The Heart For several years Dr. Pedulla observed that many young women often suffered from serious cardiac symptoms despite otherwise reassuring test results. These women were often profoundly distressed and suffered a great deal of anxiety. It was not until he began routinely asking about birth control practices that a causal connection began to be considered. Dr. Pedulla knows now from his own practice experience that all contraceptives - whether condoms, IUD's, pills, injections, or tubal ligation surgeries - are capable of causing this 'contraception syndrome.' Research now must be done to prove its existence, define its causal mechanisms, and determine how it is best healed

St. Teresa Benedicta (Edith Stein)
On October 11, 1998, Pope John Paul II canonized St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross , a Discalced Carmelite nun known in the world as Dr. Edith Stein. Edith Stein was born to a German Jewish family on October 12, 1891, the Day of Atonement on the Hebrew calendar. She grew up to become a brilliant philosopher and university professor, as well as a feminist. Her purely secular lifestyle eventually brought her to a state of melancholy. She began to search for a deeper meaning of life.
One evening, while at the home of some Catholic friends, Edith read the Life of St. Teresa of Avila, and when she finished it she said: "This is truth." Edith was baptized in 1922, and for the next decade was a dedicated teacher in Catholic schools, as well as a lecturer on women's issues. The confusion of today concerning the role of women in the home, in the Church, and in public life was also rampant in the Europe of the 1920's and 30's. Dr. Stein gave a series of lectures on such topics as "Ethos of Women's Professions" and "Vocations of Man and Woman," in which she discussed the controversy in the light of Sacred Scripture and Tradition.
At a convention of Catholic Academics in 1930, Dr. Stein said:

In fact, NIH won more honors than any other agency of the Department of Health and Human Services. Every year, NAGC hosts the awards that recognize the best in writing, editing, photography, speechwriting, video and other communication specialties produced by local, state and federal governments. More than 600 entries were submitted for 2005. Below are categories and winners that included NIH'ers. Eastertide 2007 Saint Edith Stein and the Meaning of the Cross by Freda Mary Oben
Edith Stein was born Jewish. What did the cross mean to her? She was born in Germany in 1891, on the most holy Jewish day of the year, the Day of Atonement, which fell in that year on October twelfth. The Jewish community, after a twenty-four hour fast, listens in delight to the blowing of the Shofar a beautiful sound from the horn. This end of their sacred liturgy not only signals that they can eat but announces a new birth into life and freedom from sin. Response to Anti-Semitism
holocaustum I talked with the Savior and told Him that I knew that it was His Cross that was now being placed upon the Jewish people; that most of them did not understand this; but that those who did, would have to take it up willingly in the name of all. I would do that. He should only show me how. At the end of the service, I was certain that I had been heard. But what this carrying of the cross was to consist in, that I did not yet know. (Posselt, Edith Stein Self-Portrait She knew that she had to help carry the cross being laid on the Jews and that she had to share in their destiny. She knew that she had to spend her life in the prayer of expiation for the sins being shed and for the safety of the humanity she so loved. Carmel was the place for her. Of course, it had been a reading of the autobiography of Teresa of Avila, founder of the Carmelite order, which had finally carried her into the Church. But for Edith, Carmel excels as an order because of its unique identification with the Crucified Christ.

The crack-up by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Edmund Wilson About this title: "The Crack-Up" was first published by New Directions in 1945 and is now being rediscovered by a new generation of readers. Compiled and edited by Edmund Wilson shortly after Fitzgerald's death, "The Crack-Up" tells the story of Fitzgerald's sudden descent at age thirty-nine from a life of success and glamor to one of emptiness and despair, and his determined recovery. This vigorous and revealing collection of essays and letters renders the tale of a man whose personality still charms us all and whose reckless gaiety and genious made him a living symbol and the Jazz Age. Notable Books in Phenomenology Notable Books in Phenomenology Since 15 March, 2004 this page has been visited times! This counter is just for visits to Notable Books. This listing was composed in several steps and draws on the expert judgment of phenomenologists across the planet. First a list of about 120 book titles was selected from the Encyclopedia of Phenomenology (Kluwer, 1997) and sent to the contact persons of almost 120 phenomenological organizations identified thus far with a request to relay it to other members of their organizations and it was requested that other first-class books be recommended. This process was repeated twice. Everything recommended has been accepted. Excessive inclusion seemed preferable to excessive exclusion. There are now 415 titles and they come from every region of the earth. Our tradition is, after all, planetary. If one wished to draw on this listing in encouraging the enhancement of one s library collection, nobody would discourage it!

Bl. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross
(Edith Stein)
Edith Stein was born to a Jewish family at Breslau on October 12, 1891. Through her passionate study of philosophy she searched after truth and found it in reading the autobiography of St. Teresa of Jesus. In 1922 she was baptized a Catholic and in 1933 she entered the Carmel of Cologne where she took the name Teresa Benedicta of the Cross. She was gassed and cremated at Auschwitz on August 9, 1942, during the Nazi persecution and died a martyr for the Christian faith after having offered her holocaust for the people of Israel. A woman of singular intelligence and learning, she left behind a body of writing notable for its doctrinal richness and profound spirituality. She was beatified by Pope John Paul II at Cologne on May 1, 1987.
