The third Main Expedition crew, consisting of ship's commander L D Kizim, flight engineer V A Solovyov and cosmonaut-researcher O Y Atkov, flew aboard Soyuz T-10 to the Salyut-7 orbital station to conduct scientific and technical studies and experiments. Narrative (adapted from D S F Portree's Mir Hardware Heritage , NASA RP-1357, 1995) The three-person EO-3 crew docked with Salyut 7 on 9 February, 1984, and entered the darkened station carrying flashlights. The cosmonauts commented on the burnt-metal odour of the drogue docking unit. By February 17, Salyut 7 was fully reactivated, and the cosmonauts had settled into a routine. Physician Oleg Atkov did household chores and monitored his own health and that of his colleagues, who conducted experiments. Progress 19 docked with the station from February 22-March 31, 1984. It was followed by Soyuz T-11 on April 4-11, 1984. T-11 brought Indian cosmonaut. Rakesh Sharma to the station, who conducted an Earth observation program concentrating on India. He also did life sciences and materials processing experiments and became the first yoga practitioner in zero-G. On April 13, Soyuz T-11 was repositioned to the front port by rotating Salyut 7, freeing the aft port for Progress 20. The resupply craft was docked to the station from April 17-May 6, 1984.

In January 1996, we combined our small shop in Dee Why with the larger neighbouring shop and created a bookshop with the space our books demanded.
In October 1999, we started with a moderate 1234 books on the internet. Today we have around 30'000 book titles online and our website handles many orders each day, locally and internationally. Hailed as "the Russian Newman", the great Eastern theologian, poet and mystic Vladimir Solovyov has been unjustly neglected in the West. More recently however, leading Catholic figures such as John Paul II (in his encyclical Fides et Ratio) and Cardinal Giacomo Biffi (at a recent international conference on Solovyov held in Bologna) have called for a revival of interest in the work of this prophetic figure. Born into the Russian Orthodox Church, Solovyov was a life-long advocate for the authority of the pope, and was received into the Catholic Church toward the end of his life. In his preface to this anthology, Cardinal Biffi writes: "Vladimir Solovyov understood the twentieth century, but the twentieth century has not understood him". This wide-ranging anthology brings together in one volume a representative selection of Solovyov's theological, historical and mystical writings in the hope of introducing this profound Christian thinker to a wider public. It will make a useful contribution to the ecumenical dialogue between East and West called for by the pres

    17. Vladimir Solovyov [Internet Encyclopedia Of Philosophy]
Article by Thomas Nemeth. Includes biographical information and extensive discussions of many aspects of solovyov s thought.
    http://www.iep.utm.edu/s/solovyov.htm
Vladimir Solovyov (1853-1900) Table of Contents (Clicking on the links below will take you to those parts of this article) 1. Life Solovyov was born in Moscow in 1853. His father, Sergej Mikhailovich, a professor at Moscow University, is universally recognized as one of Russia's greatest historians. After attending secondary school in Moscow, Vladimir enrolled at the university and began his studies there in the natural sciences in 1869, his particular interest at this time being biology. Already at the age of 13 he had renounced his Orthodox faith to his friends, accepting the banner of materialism perhaps best illustrated by the fictional character of Bazarov in Turgenev's novel Fathers and Sons and the actual historical figure of Pisarev. During the first two or three years of study at the university Solovyov grew disenchanted with his ardent positivism and did poorly in his examinations. An excellent student prior to this time, there is no reason for us to doubt his intellectual gifts. Nevertheless, although he himself as well as his interpreters have attributed his poor performance to growing disinterest in his course of study, this reasoning may sound to us at least somewhat disingenuous. In any case, Solovyov subsequently enrolled as an auditor in the Historical-Philosophical Faculty, then passing the examination for a degree in June 1873.

Vladimir Solovyov was born in Moscow on 16 January , in the family of well-known Russian historian Sergey Mikhaylovich Solovyov ). His mother, Polixena Vladimirovna, belonged to the Ukrainian-Polish family, having among her ancestors a remarkable thinker the 18th century Hryhori Skovoroda In his teens Solovyov renounced Orthodox Christianity for nihilism though later Solovyov changed his earlier convictions and began expressing views in line again with the Russian Orthodox Church . Vladimir Solovyov was also known to be a very close friend and confidant of Fyodor Dostoevsky . In opposition to Dostoevsky's apparent views of the Roman Catholic church , Solovyov has been rumoured to have converted to Roman Catholicism four years before his death. It could be said that he did this to engage in the reconciliation between Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy, a reconciliation that Solovyov outspokenly favoured, but Solovyov himself always maintained that he was still a Russian Orthodox believer and that he had never left the Orthodox faith.

Links Vladimir Sergeyevich Solovyov (sometimes written in English as Soloviev) was a philosopher, poet, literary critic and a mystic with an intense connection to the Divine in the form of the feminine archetype of Sophia or Holy Wisdom. His writings had a strong influence on Russian Symbolist poetry and on Russian spirituality in general in the early 20th century.
Solovyov was born in Moscow in 1853. His father was a famous historian and a professor at Moscow University. At the age of nine, triggered by the first frustrated longings of love for a girl, Solovyov had the first in a series of three mystical encounters with Sophia.
At the age of 13, Solovyov renounced the Orthodox Church and began a troubled exploration of the philosophies of materialism and nihilism. He initially studied natural history and biology at university, but his grades began to slip. He switched to studies in history and philosophy.
Sometime around the age of 20, he "reconverted" to the Orthodox Church, and became a lay theological student and lecturer. He later traveled to London to do research among the religious and spiritual texts at the British Museum.
