Contact Saturday, November 17, 2007 Blessed Antonio Rosmini Serbati It is with great joy that I share the announcement that Fr Antonio Rosmini is being raised to the glory of the altars! After a long and difficult process, his beloved followers have persevered to finally see tomorrow, the Beatification ceremony of the Venerable Servant of God, in the small town of Novara in Northern Italy. Rosmini was born in Rovereto (then part of Austria), 1797. He was a deeply intelligent boy, excelling at all his subjects. He was ordained at the age of 24 and received his degree from the University of Padua a year later. When he was brought to Rome, his reputation preceded him, and even the Pope of the time, Pius VIII, personally recommended that he devote himself entirely to his writing. He wrote many works , including philosophy, theology, spirituality, politics and ecclesiology. At the age of 42, the congregation which he founded, the Institute of Charity, received official papal approval from Pius IX, a personal friend. However, he eventually fell out of favour with the papal court in large part due to the political strife of the time, with Rosmini opposing the actions surrounding the war with Austria.

He stresses the foundation of contemplation. One only leaves contemplation when a particular call from God is received. Antonio Rosmini (March 25, 1797 - July 1, 1855) was a prodigious thinker and writer, an Italian Roman Catholic priest (at the time when northern Italy was under Austria), founder of two religious orders, the Institute of Charity and the Sisters of Providence. Rosmini the philosopher Rosmini the spiritual guide Rosmini had a profound spiritual life and gathered together a group that resulted in founding an order of brothers and priests, and another of sisters. He wrote prophetically and challengingly of the problems that he saw beset his church. Antonio Rosmini-Serbati From LoveToKnow 1911 ANTONIO ROSMINI-SERBATI Italian philosopher, was born at Rovereto in Italian Tirol on the 25th of March 1797. He belonged to a noble and wealthy family, but at an early age decided to enter the priesthood. After studying at Pavia and Padua , he took orders in 1821. In 1828 he founded a new religious order, the Institute of the Brethren of Charity ,. known in Italy generally as the Rosminians. The members might be priests or laymen, who devoted themselves to preaching , the education of youth, and works of charity - material, moral and intellectual. They have branches in Italy, England Ireland France and America . In London they are attached to the church of St Etheldreda, Ely Place, Holborn , where the English translation of Rosmini's works is edited. His works, The Five Wounds of the Holy Church and The Constitution of Social Justice, aroused great opposition, especially among the Jesuits , and in 1849 they were placed upon the Index.
