The Anti-Christ ATTEMPT AT A CRITIQUE OF CHRISTIANITY
Friedrich Nietzsche [ 1895 ] Translated by Walter Kaufmann
SYNOPSIS AND INDEX Preface
1 Modernity is the sickness of we Hyperboreans

3 What type of man shall be bred?

4 There is no progress in mankind; the higher type of man is a species apart
...
62 I condemn Christianity: it is parasitical, the highest of all conceivable corruptions

PREFACE This book belongs to the very few. Perhaps not one of them is even living yet. Maybe they will be the readers who understand my Zarathustra: how could I mistake myself for one of those for whom there are ears even now? Only the day after tomorrow belongs to me. Some are born posthumously. FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE
This modernity was our sickness: lazy peace, cowardly compromise, the whole virtuous uncleanliness of the modern Yes and No. This tolerance and largeur of the heart, which "forgives" all because it "understands" all, is sirocco for us. Rather live in the ice than among modern virtues and other south winds!
What is good? Everything that heightens the feeling of power in man, the will to power, power itself.

Fat itself is a substance or essence of a substance or mode of that essence. The big problem sets in when it accumulates on your hips. Among the pre-Socratics, it was Zeno who held that weight was an illusion and that no matter how much a man ate he would always be only half as fat as the man who never does push-ups. The quest for an ideal body obsessed the Athenians, and in a lost play by Aeschylus Clytemnestra breaks her vow never to snack between meals and tears out her eyes when she realizes she no longer fits into her bathing suit. It took the mind of Aristotle to put the weight problem in scientific terms, and in an early fragment of the Ethics he states that the circumference of any man is equal to his girth multiplied by pi. This sufficed until the Middle Ages, when Aquinas translated a number of menus into Latin and the first really good oyster bars opened. Dining out was still frowned upon by the Church, and valet parking was a venal sin.

Friedrich Nietzsche Dates:
Born: October 15, 1844, in Rocken, Prussia
Died: August 25, 1900 in Weimar, Germany Biography:
Friedrich Nietzsche was a German philologist and philosopher who became well known for his iconoclastic style, aphoristic writings, and harsh critique of religion and contemporary ideas about morality. Nietzsche's sister, a virulent anti-semite, ended up with control over his papers after he died and she worked to ensure that his legacy would be used to support anti-semitic politics and the Nazi regime, albeit in an edited form. The Eternal Return of Friedrich Nietzsche
an astrological portrait
by Gerry Goddard
"Man is a rope stretched between the animal and the Superman a rope over an abyss...What is great in man is that he is a bridge and not a goal: what is lovable in man is that he is a transition..." Thus Spake Zarathustra. The birth chart of Friedrich Nietzsche the radical individualist and iconoclast, critically astute philosopher yet passionate poet, empirical psychologist yet visionary prophet stands as a symbolic portrait, not only of the titanic struggles of the man himself, but of the agonizing age which he ushered in our age. The questions and psychic forces which tore at the soul of this mythic figure who dared to stand against the consensus of centuries, against the all-consuming power of the collective and its conventional pretensions, are burning issues for us still as we lonely individuals seek our rebirth amidst the rubble of Western civilization. Declaring the supreme value of the outstanding individual who towers above the herd courageously transvaluing all values, Nietzsche envisions his heroic 'Superman' standing at the pinnacle of history forging his destiny from the primary and godless Chaos of reality.

The sum of the whole is this: walk and be happy, walk and be healthy. "The best of all ways to lengthen our days" is not, as Mr. Thomas Moore has it, "to steal a few hours from night, my love;" but, with leave be it spoken, to walk steadily and with a purpose. The wandering man knows of certain ancients, far gone in years, who have staved off infirmities and dissolution by earnest walking, hale fellows close upon eighty and ninety, but brisk as boys. Charles Dickens If you are for a merry jaunt, I will try, for once, who can foot it farthest. John Dryden Walking is also an ambulation of mind.

Friedrich Nietzsche:
Thus Spake Zarathustra, 1891
Translated by Thomas Common PROLOGUE Zarathustra's Prologue WHEN Zarathustra was thirty years old, he left his home and the lake of his home, and went into the mountains. There he enjoyed his spirit and his solitude, and for ten years did not weary of it. But at last his heart changed,- and rising one morning with the rosy dawn, he went before the sun, and spake thus unto it: Thou great star! What would be thy happiness if thou hadst not those for whom thou shinest! For ten years hast thou climbed hither unto my cave: thou wouldst have wearied of thy light and of the journey, had it not been for me, mine eagle, and my serpent. But we awaited thee every morning, took from thee thine overflow, and blessed thee for it. Lo! I am weary of my wisdom, like the bee that hath gathered too much honey; I need hands outstretched to take it. I would fain bestow and distribute, until the wise have once more become joyous in their folly, and the poor happy in their riches. Therefore must I descend into the deep: as thou doest in the evening, when thou goest behind the sea, and givest light also to the nether-world, thou exuberant star!

INTRODUCTION BY MRS FORSTER-NIETZSCHE.
HOW ZARATHUSTRA CAME INTO BEING.
"Zarathustra" is my brother`s most personal work; it is the history of his most individual experiences, of his friendships, ideals, raptures, bitterest disappointments and sorrows. Above it all, however, there soars, transfiguring it, the image of his greatest hopes and remotest aims. My brother had the figure of Zarathustra in his mind from his very earliest youth: he once told me that even as a child he had dreamt of him. At different periods in his life, he would call this haunter of his dreams by different names; "but in the end," he declares in a note on the subject, "I had to do a PERSIAN the honour of identifying him with this creature of my fancy. Persians were the first to take a broad and comprehensive view of history. Every series of evolutions, according to them, was presided over by a prophet; and every prophet had his `Hazar,`his dynasty of a thousand years." All Zarathustra`s views, as also his personality, were early conceptions of my brother`s mind. Whoever reads his posthumously published writings for the years 1869-82 with care, will constantly meet with passages suggestive of Zarathustra`s thoughts and doctrines. For instance, the ideal of the Superman is put forth quite clearly in all his writings during the years 1873-75; and in "We Philologists", the following remarkable observations occur:-
